The University of Rochester was founded in 1850 by dissenting students and faculty of Madison University. In 1853, congressman Azariah Boody donated 8 acres of land to the University. Also, George Eastman, the person who founded Eastman Kodak, donated funds for the School of Music, Medicine, and Dentistry. It rapidly expanded throughout the 20th century into the vast, decorated school it is today. Now, University of Rochester scholarships are offered to international students.
There are currently more than 6,000 undergraduates and 3,000 graduate students enrolled at Rochester. Also among its student body, there are 2,300 international students at Rochester who represent 120+ countries. These students are instructed by approximately 1,200 professors at the college.
The professors and students are located in eight different schools managed by the University: The Eastman School of Music, the School of Medicine & Dentistry, Simon Business School, Warner Graduate School, the Hajim School of Engineering, and the School of Arts & Sciences. In these schools, the university offers over 200 majors. So, students studying at the University of Rochester will not be limited by the lack of majors.
Outside of studying, Rochester offers an upwards of 200 organizations including sports, art ensembles, Greek societies, and community awareness groups. Graduate students have their own organizations in addition to the general clubs offered by the University. These groups are helpful to students when they want to have fun in their free time.
UR has an Endowment composed of 2,303 different funds to support the University. In total, the endowment is $2.35 billion. The first gift made to Rochester’s Endowment was a sum of $10,000 made in 1849. Since then, the school has been receiving donations and spending the funds to support the wide array of University of Rochester scholarships and other activities on and off campus.
Graduates of Rochester have found success in healthcare, academia, business, politics, arts, science, and business, among others. Six Nobel Prize Laureates graduated from the University of Rochester. As an accredited and extensive research college, alumni can find success with a background rooting in attending the University.
University of Rochester Scholarships (Undergraduate)
International students are eligible for all merit scholarships that are offered by the University of Rochester. Also, a small number of student are eligible to receive need-based scholarships. Univerity of Rochester Scholarships (Graduate)
While international students may not qualify for federal aid and loans found on the Graduate Scholarships Page, they are qualified to receive other types of aid found on that page. So, tuition scholarships, assistantships, special fellowships, tuition benefits, and outside fellowships are awarded to international students. Combination of these can cover your tuition and living expenses easily.
Graduate students need to go to the Graduate Admissions Page and click on your department. When you do, you will go to your department’s admission page which explains the admission procedures in details.
You need to make sure that you follow those instructions for all students as well as instructions for international students as well such as submitting TOEFL and IELTS.
