The University of Regina was founded in 1910 by the Methodist Church of Canada. Some students might think that because it was founded by the Methodist church that they would have to be a Methodist to attend the university. However, it became a non-denominational public research university and doesn’t enforce its faith on its students. Not only that, it welcomes students from all backgrounds by awarding University of Regina scholarships to students with financial difficulty or academic merits.
There are many successful alumni that prove that the academic excellence that the University of Regina provides. Some of the most successful alumni of the university are the Saros Coswasjee, a novelist and short story writer; and Palmela Walling, a member of the Parliament.
There are a total of 14,000 students that are on the campus of Regina University. These students are taught by 400 full-time faculty with many associate professors. The beautiful campus itself fosters the learning environment because it is located in the Wascana Centre. This location is known to be the largest urban park in North America. In this beautiful campus, these students are taught very well by the high-quality professors.
So what do these students and faculty believe is important? The main focus of this university is its research. Today, the main research projects of this university focus on Health, Informatics, Culture, and Heritage, Energy and Environment. Students who are admitted can research in any of thirteen research centers that are available in the campus. Not only do they have excellent research centers, but the University of Regina has a wide variety of programs as well. The thirteen programs are Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, Faculty of Science, Centre for Continuing Education, Institut Français, English as Second Language (ESL) and Faculty of Social Work. Students can study in any of these programs by receiving University of Regina scholarships.
Also, the university focuses on sports as well as the academics for student’s physical and mental well-being. The University of Regina is a part of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport, which is a sports league for Canadian University. Also, many of their varsity sports teams are named “Cougars,” with the exception of their football team, which is named Regina Rams.
There are many successful teams that are currently playing in the league. The leading sports team in campus are volleyball, men and women’s basketball, hockey, and swimming. If students are not interested in the varsity teams, they can try playing in the intramural sports. These sports are offered every semester to students, and there are several fun sports as well.
Also, if you are just interested in just taking physical classes non-competitively, there are many that do. For example, they offer classes in Hip-hop dancing, yoga, and other activities through the program called UR Fit Classes. For students that just want to work out, they can try the Fitness and Lifestyle Centre, considered to be one of the best-equipped fitness centers in Regina.
The tuition fee for undergraduate international students is $20,000 per year for undergraduate students and $7,000 per year for graduate students. These tuition fees do differ based on the pursued degree and the academic programs. Also, it differs based on the number of credits that you will be taking. Unfortunately, the university itself does not award scholarships for undergraduate international students. If you do want to study at this university, you will need to either pay the full tuition fee or find external scholarships that apply to Canadian Universities. These external scholarships can be found in your home country or in Canada.
