Peking University, a member of the prestigious C9 League, is a major research university located in Beijing. The school was founded in 1898 as a replacement for Imperial College, and was the highest administration for education at the time of its founding. The school is consistently ranked in the top 20 universities in the world and 2 in Asia by Times Higher Education’s rankings, and as high as #41 by US News and World Report. There are 30,240 current students at Peking, with about 15,000 undergraduates and the same amount of graduates. The 4,200 academic staff make the school’s student to faculty ratio about 8:1. Peking University has a variety of departments to offer, and they’re scattered throughout the university’s 30 different schools. They include the renowned Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, the HSBC Business School, and the Guanghua School of Management.

PKU has always been known for some of the most astonishing architecture in China on their main campus, which happens to be the former site of the Qing Dynasty imperial gardens. The school features several museums including the Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Art & Archeology. There is one additional campus in Shenzhen, called the Shenzhen Graduate School.

As a major research university, the school hosts an amazing 216 different research institutions and research centers. The school’s library is the largest university library in Asia, holding 11 million volumes. Their endowment is a great figure, at roughly 8.6 billion Chinese yuan per year.
