Are you interested in the HKUST acceptance rate? If so, you have come to the right place! Before that, however, let’s talk about the background information.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a public research university based in Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong. It is an elite institution of higher education with a world-class reputation for education and cutting-edge research. Established in 1991, it is the third university to be given its status in the region of Hong Kong.

In just around 25 years, the university has evolved to become one of the fastest-growing universities in the world. In addition to winning numerous accolades and awards and receiving high international prestige for its education, it has helped to bolster Hong Kong’s socio-economic development.

The university is campus-based and has a large and diverse spread in the Clean Water Bay peninsula, giving it a distinct exclusion from the outside community. It is connected to the main city center through a metro network that offers easy access for students and staff alike.

Academically, the university is divided into 4 main schools including Science, Engineering, Social Sciences/Humanities, and Business. Each of these schools is divided into singular departments which collectively offer over 200 courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The School of Engineering is especially ranked highly and has been placed as the 17th best school in the world for Engineering studies. The Executive MBA program offered by the School of Business is also a highly coveted course for graduate students.

One of the reasons attributed to the university’s high success is the fact that it maintains strong collaborations with other global institutions which creates an interdisciplinary exchange of information between borders. The university also offers several cutting-edge facilities for research. Premier institutes include the HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute and the Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study. As you can see, HKUST is a world-class university, and therefore, its acceptance rate is a bit low.

All academic activities are mostly carried out in the Academic Building on campus which houses the administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, and around 10 main lecture halls. The university’s main library is the Lee Kau Shee library that provides study spaces and computer facilities for around 3000 students. It has a collection of over 700,000 prints and volumes. Furthermore, given the campus-based nature of the university, the university contains several facilities such as restaurants, bars, supermarkets, clinics, banking facilities, and a bookstore.

HKUST currently has a student enrolment of over 15,000 students which includes approximately 10,000 undergraduates and 5000 postgraduates. A third of the enrolment is attributed to non-local students of international backgrounds. The HKUST Students’ Union is an independent organisation that oversees the activities of the students’ body, the residential activities, sports, and over 100 societies and student-run clubs affiliated to the union.

Graduates from HKUST are constantly making rapid progress within their respective fields while further contributing to society. Although the university had its inception recently, numerous alumni have made striking contributions, particularly in the field of science, engineering, and technology. Most recently, programmer Scotty Kwok succeeded in showing how AI can be used for early cancer diagnosis. It is quite clear that, given the academic excellence of this prestigious up-and-coming university, HKUST will continue to produce numerous alumni who will reach international recognition for their work.
