Nebraska was accepted into the USA in 1867, and two years later, the University of Nebraska was established in 1869. The school began its first academic session the same year of its establishment, and it graduated its first class in 1873. The population of UNL witnessed a dramatic increase when the school was taken over by the state in 1889, and the student population rose from 384 in 1890 to 1,500 in 1895. Although the school was not well-known, in 1914, the institution became known as a result of its relocation downtown. In 1940, as a result of WWII, the school further expanded because of the increasing number of returning soldiers who sought education after the war. Estimates put the number of students involved in Greek life in UNL at a whopping 5,200 belonging to over 20 fraternities and sororities. UNL is famous for the capacity of the institution’s stadium. The stadium is estimated to hold a population of almost 92,000 people which surpasses the number of people in Nebraska’s third-largest city.

The Acceptance Rate at the University of Nebraska

The acceptance rate at UNL is quite high. Last year, approximately 9,200 freshmen applied to the institution, and abou7,400 of the applicants were offered admission into UNL, which means that the acceptance rate at the University of Nebraska is 76% applicants.  An estimated 78% of the student population at UNL is from Nebraska, while the rest are students from other states in the US and International students.
