Established in 1828, McKendree University is the first university in Illinois. Now, almost 200 years after its founding, McKendree has consistently found itself named and ranked among America’s Best Colleges. This private institution’s main campus is located in Lebanon, Illinois, U.S.A.  The wide campus covers a 235-acre area in the suburban region of Lebanon, a small town of 4,000 residents. This quaint setting is highly contrasted with the busy sprawling downtown St. Louis, Missouri just about half an hour away.

About 91% of all freshmen live on Campus and classes have an eclectic mix of both local American and international students. Students come from all across the U.S. and the world with 41 states and 38 nations represented. In terms of gender demographics, it’s a pretty even split with the student population being 48% female and 52% male. The student accommodations are comprised of 3 halls, 3 suites, and 2 apartments.

Students can choose from over 59 major degrees, 45 minor degrees, 6 graduate degrees, and 2 doctorate programs offered through their 4 colleges and schools. Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees are offered through their 4 colleges, namely: College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, School of Business, and School of Nursing and Health Professions. To attend these colleges, you just need to be a decent student due to the acceptance rate at McKendree University being 70%.

Student enrolment comes to a total of about 2000 freshmen per year and the overall total of students reaching about 2,600. There are about a 25% attrition rate and a 75% retention rate for freshmen.

Most of McKendree’s faculty already hold their doctorate degrees and are heavily invested in their students’ academic wellbeing and success. Typical classes are not overcrowded with just a small size of about 14 students per class. This makes the teacher-student relationship much more personal, creating a close mentor-mentee relationship that’s crucial to academic excellence.

For the busy adult student, McKendree also offers select online courses for undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate programs. Other course offerings include accelerated one-month courses at the Kentucky Campus at Hardin County and the Center at the Scott Air Force Base.

McKendree calls their sports teams the Bearcats and has 34 teams in various fields of athletics. With both NCAA and Non-NCAA sport, students can join the athletic teams that they’re interested in.

Acceptance Rate at McKendree University

McKendree has an encouraging acceptance rate that is close to 70%. Their enrolled students on average have a high school GPA of about 3.4. Successful applicants have an average ACT score of 24.
