Established in 1795, this is one of the oldest institutions for higher learning in the United States. It was the first to receive a charter with the state of New York. As common with the rest of the institutions at the time, Union College accepted only male students. However, that changed in 1970 when it started admitting women. Based in Schenectady, New York,  it is one of the biggest liberal arts colleges in the country. Union College offers degrees in various popular fields and you could take advantage of that. Despite being one of the longest-operating schools on earth, Union is still quite small in size. The Dutchmen/Dutchwomen, as it is nicknamed, has a total student population of 2,240; all of them being undergrads. Only 34% of this number comes from within the New York state but that doesn’t have much impact on its moderate ethnic diversity. For every ten of the students, there is one highly-trained lecturer. Over 92% of these teachers teach the Union College on a full-time basis. This reflects in the high on-time graduation rate of 81%. There are 16 broad and popular fields of study within which you can choose one in 44 different degree programs (37 majors). Economics and Mechanical Engineering are the most famous programs in the institution. Among National Liberal Arts Colleges, Union is ranked 39th on overall performance. This U.S. News & World Report’s statistic is backed by Forbes who also ranks the school as the best in offering programs related to substance abuse counseling. As one of the schools with online learning, it has the 4th best affordable Master’s in Psychology. At least a quarter of the school has been enrolled in social science courses. The rest are distributed across engineering, biology, psychology, and humanities among others.

Acceptance Rate at Union College

Based on the statistics of the previous admission cycle, Union College has an acceptance rate of 37%. As such, it is a highly selective school that only takes the most qualified applicants. So, what do you need in order to stand a chance of being selected? For starters, you will have to be an excellent student.

In 2018, Union College accepted students with a GPA of anywhere around 3.4. Your SAT score, on the other hand, should be above 1370. If you are planning to send the ACT score, you should have above 27 points.
