As a public research university, the New Jersey Institute of Technology started as Newark Technical School in 1885 with the help of local inventors and industrialists in Newark, New Jersey. It began with 88 students then grew to become Newark College of Engineering. In 1973, the school also offered an architecture course with the establishment of the School of Architecture. At present, it hosts one school and five colleges and is currently a polytechnic university. In this article, we will be looking at the acceptance rate at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Aside from offering 53 undergraduate courses and 66 graduate programs, NJIT also offers Healthcare and Law professional programs in partnership with the Seton Hall Law School and Rutgers Medical School. Students can also cross-register with Rutgers University-Newark.

As a public research university, the New Jersey Institute of NJIT spends millions of US dollars on research and development and focuses on solar-terrestrial physics, cybersecurity, biomedical engineering, materials science, and applied mathematics. It hosts the Enterprise Development Center, which is a business incubator on campus that has at least 90 start-ups. Moreover, the university has an innovation institute that provides research and development services to businesses. It has numerous research centers like SmartCampus and the National Center for Transportation and Industrial Productivity.

The Big Bear Solar Observatory is the largest of its kind around the world. Also, NJIT has the Computerized Conferencing and Communications Center (CCCC) as a research institution specializing in computer-mediated communication. Its output includes systems like the Electronic Information Exchange System (EIES) 1 and 2, and the Tailorable Electronic Information Exchange System. The Virtual Classroom constitutes one of the significant EIES developments and is a trailblazer in e-learning platforms around the world. In the mid-90s, the university decided to close the EIES and CCCC upon completion of their missions.

The Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency designated the New Jersey Institute of Technology as a National Center of Academic Excellence in the field of Cyber Defense Education. The Robert W. Van Houten Library is a facility for browsing online and print sources, researching, and quiet and group study. On the other hand, the Barbara and Leonard Littman Library for Architecture houses a central collection of electronic and print books, maps, models, materials samples, journals, drawings, digital images, and at least 70,000 slides.

A majority of NJIT students decide to live off-campus. On the other hand, for the 2,200 students who live on campus, they can opt to live in Redwood, Cypress, Laurel, Oak, or Warren Street Village. Cypress and Redwood Halls are for new students, while upperclassmen can choose to live in Oak or Laurel Hall. Warren Street is a relatively new residence hall catering to Dorman Honors College students. Student-athletes can join any of NJIT’s varsity sports teams that compete at the Division I level of the NCAA. Some sports teams like the men’s diving and swimming, and the men’s volleyball team compete in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association and the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. Also, the men’s fencing team competes at the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association. The lacrosse team, on the other hand, competes in the Northeast Conference.

Acceptance Rate at New Jersey Institute of Technology

US News places New Jersey Institute of Technology in rank 106 among the national universities. NJIT offers an urban setting for learning with an acceptance rate of 63%. The average SAT scores of applicants range from 1190 to 1380 while the average ACT scores range between 25 and 30. Compared to other colleges and universities, NJIT’s admission difficulty is moderate.
