Montclair State University (MSU) is one of the largest institutions of its kind in the state of New Jersey. MSU is a public university with a strong focus on research activities. It was founded in 1908 as a normal school, oriented towards the preparation of future teachers and educators. However, it increasingly expanded its curriculum, to the point of being recognized as a university and receiving its current name in 1994. In the last two decades, Montclair State University has had considerable growth and great investments have made on the campus. It now has a station that connects it to the city of New York; modern equipment for the School of Communications and Media; and a newly renovated center for Computing and Information Science. The university now offers over 300 programs, including business, psychology, and family studies and consumer sciences, which are some of the most popular majors. Additionally, Montclair State University offers numerous online programs, with the understanding that convenience and accessibility are key for many students.

Over 16,000 students attend Montclair State University and it’s in the top 100 of the best public schools. Despite the high student body, classes are small, with an average of 23 students per class and a faculty to student ratio of 1:17, meaning that’s there’s one professor for every 17 students. Montclair State University takes great pride in encouraging diversity and there has been a greater number of minority graduates in the past few years. Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Education considers it as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. If you would like to attend this university, you have a great chance at it since the acceptance rate at Montclair State University is pretty high.

To promote global education for its students, Montclair State University has numerous partnerships with over 20 institutions outside of the United States. This way, they promote international exchanges. In these programs, students can take a semester or an entire academic year outside of the country while continuing their education. Likewise, Montclair State University welcomes numerous international studies each semester, making for an even more multicultural student body.

The school sports’ teams are called the Red Hawks and Montclair State University competes on a wide variety of disciplines. Some of the sports offered at Montclair State University are football, basketball, and swimming. They all compete in the NCAA Division III. There’s a variety of clubs as well, which go from lacrosse to quidditch, which is an unofficial competition.

The initial campus of Montclair State University was originally comprised of 25 acres. Today, it has over 500 acres, with numerous residential buildings for students. Some of these are currently under expansion to be able to accommodate upcoming generations as the university continues to grow. The campus offers many amenities for the students, including the Red Hawk Diner, which was the first university diner.

Acceptance Rates At Montclair State University

Montclair State University has an acceptance rate of 71%, meaning that over two-thirds of the applicants are accepted. The average student has a GPA of 3.2 or more and the university takes into consideration how involved the student is with their community. Extracurricular activities highly increase the chances of acceptance. The graduation rate at MSU is 64%, which is above the average number for the United States.
