East Carolina University is located in Greenville, North Carolina, and is the fourth-largest university in the state. The university was originally founded in 1907 as a teacher-training school. When East Carolina University first opened, the campus was only 43 acres, but since then the university has expanded to six properties that contain nine undergraduate colleges, a graduate school, and four professional schools stretching across almost 1,600 acres. Of all nine undergraduate colleges, the largest in the College of Education. Students enrolled in the College of Education at East Carolina University can choose from 17 undergraduate programs, 22 graduate programs, six advanced certifications, and the doctorate program in education. The College of Education is also home to an international access journal titled the Journal of Curriculum and Instruction. In the journal, a wide variety of issues related to teaching are discussed and in 2010, the Journal of Curriculum and Instruction won the Edward C. Pomeroy Award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

East Carolina University is a large university with over 29,000 students and over 5,000 faculty members. The university has a diverse community with students from all counties in North Carolina, from all 50 states, and from 44 different countries. As a whole, East Carolina University offers over 175-degree programs and offers numerous methods of support for students as they navigate the academic programs. The Pirate Academic Success Center, the University Writing Center, and the Speech Communication Center are just a few of the support centers that are present on campus. Due to the high acceptance rate at East Carolina University, attending this university is not too difficult.

East Carolina University ranked as one of the top national universities for the U.S. News and World Report in 2016 and the College of Business has been ranked as one of the top business schools by the Princeton Review for five years in a row. The university has also received several awards recognizing the outstanding work of faculty members, including the Patriot Award and the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.

Student life is an important part of the experience at East Carolina University and the school offers over 400 different clubs for students to choose from. Sports are also a large part of student life at the university and the sports teams are called the East Carolina Pirates. All of the sports teams at the university, except for the women’s lacrosse team, are a part of the NCAA Division I. The women’s lacrosse team started in 2018 and will become a member of the American’s new women’s lacrosse league in the 2019 school year. East Carolina University has been a member of the NCAA since 1961.

Acceptance Rate at East Carolina University

East Carolina University has a 70% acceptance rate and offers rolling admission. An online application, as well as high school transcripts and admissions test scores, are required before a student can be considered. Daily tours are offered at East Carolina University for prospective students and there is also a virtual tour offered online for students who are unable to visit the campus in person.
