East Carolina University is located in Greenville, North Carolina, and is the fourth-largest university in the state. The university was originally founded in 1907 as a teacher-training school. Student life is an important part of the experience at East Carolina University and the school offers over 400 different clubs for students to choose from. Sports are also a large part of student life at the university and the sports teams are called the East Carolina Pirates. All of the sports teams at the university, except for the women’s lacrosse team, are a part of the NCAA Division I. The women’s lacrosse team started in 2018 and will become a member of the American’s new women’s lacrosse league in the 2019 school year. East Carolina University has been a member of the NCAA since 1961.
