Oakland University is a 1,444-acre public and academic institution in a suburban setting. It uses the semester-based calendar and offers at least 130 degrees for undergraduates. Additionally, graduate students have access to further studies in the fields of learning like health, education, business, and engineering. In this article, we will be looking at the acceptance rate at Oakland University.

All students enjoy the camaraderie inside the campus as classes often have less than 35 students. Graduate assistants teach 1% of the total courses. Every year, the university invites corporate employers to interview its students. According to statistics, close to 90% of the students get a job right after graduation.

Oakland University students can choose from at least 200 campus organizations, student government, and Greek Life. The athletic ones often try out for the school’s varsity teams. Notable alumni include Jasna Rather, a table tennis Olympian who earned a degree in political science. Baywatch star David Hasselhoff didn’t graduate from Oakland University, but he enrolled for one semester.

Initially, Michigan State University operated Oakland University as its branch. It started in 1959 with three buildings and 570 students and took the name as Michigan State University – Oakland. However, the school adopted the name Oakland University in 1963.

Currently, the university offers 138 graduate and 132 bachelor’s degree programs. Its major academic units include arts and sciences, business administration, education, human sciences, engineering, computer science, health sciences, nursing, and medicine. The institution also supports different study abroad programs and an Honors College. If you are interested, you should definitely apply  since the acceptance rate at Oakland University is very high.

In 1991, Oakland University initiated collaboration with the Beaumont Health System for a Nurse Anesthesia Graduate Program due to the shortage of nurse anesthesia. It began offering an exceptional environment for the training of certified nurse anesthetists. Its School of Business Administration holds an AACSB-International accreditation for accounting and business. It offers an Executive MBA program with concentrations in IS Leadership and Health Care, the only one of its kind in Michigan.

The university adopted the Thomas M. Cooley Law School-Auburn Hills campus in 2008 as its exclusive educational law school. In that same year, it founded the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and started offering classes in 2011. The medical school is Michigan’s fourth institution that offers an MD degree.

Oakland University supports various research institutes and canters as part of its mission. Moreover, it has the Smart Zone Business Incubator that offers entrepreneurial expertise and resources to foster and support businesses in the life science and technology fields.

In 1967, the university founded Meadow Brook Theater as a nonprofit professional theater that shows different award-winning productions each year. Furthermore, it operates the Oakland University Art Gallery that presents a minimum of six exhibitions annually. The gallery also hosts a variety of symposia, performances, and lectures.

Acceptance Rate at Oakland University

Most students live outside of the campus, although Oakland University has various student apartments and residence halls. Those living on campus, have access to residential learning communities. US News ranks the academic institution between 230 and 301 in the National Universities category. Oakland University’s acceptance rate in the 2016-2017 academic year is 86%. Applicants with SAT scores from 1090 to 1300 or ACT ratings between 21 and 27 have a high probability of passing the university’s challenging admission standards.
