Founded in 1833, Oberlin College is a liberal arts college and a music conservatory located in Oberlin, in the state of Ohio. In 1837, Oberlin College became the first college in the entire nation to take an anti-racist step by admitting African Americans. The college offers more than 50 majors and 40 minors and concentrations. It is house to approximately 3000 students and stretches on a land of 440 acres. Oberlin College takes part in the NCAA Division III championship in more than 20 sports including baseball, basketball, soccer, football, and tennis. There are various independent sports clubs in the college, which are organized by students having a passion for sports. The male and female athletic teams of the college are called Yeomen and Yeowomen, respectively.
About 125 independent student organizations and clubs on the campus host various activities for students to have the best experience of college life. These clubs span the areas of music, social events, politics, arts, and entrepreneurship.
Oberlin College’s notable alumni consist of many musicians, dancers, journalists, politicians, and businessmen. Oberlin College has produced eight Pulitzer Prize winners, sixteen Rhodes Scholars, and twenty Truman Scholars. Stanley Cohen, Robert Millikan, and Roger Wolcott Sperry, the Nobel Laureates, were also Oberlin graduates. Some of the graduates have even won Grammys, Golden Globes, and Academy Awards.
Acceptance Rate at Oberlin College
The admission requirements at Oberlin College are quite difficult to meet. The acceptance rate of Oberlin College for the class of 2022 was merely 27%. Only 2000 students out of 7000 applicants were accepted by the college, which makes it a highly selective school. The average SAT and ACT score requirements of the college are 1300 (out of 1600) and 29 (out of 36), respectively.
