With its campus a stone’s throw away from the Hocking River, Ohio University is a public research university established in 1804 in Athens, Ohio. It is one of the first universities in the United States to be chartered by an Act of Congress, and also the first university to be established in Ohio. In this article, we will be looking at the acceptance rate at Ohio University.

Since the university campus was built during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, some of the university’s facilities showcase New England and Federalist architectural themes giving it a strong historical vibe. The university’s oldest facilities are centered in College Green. McGuffey and Wilson Halls were built in the 19th century, featuring Georgian architectural themes, while Cutler Hall is designated as a National Historic Landmark in the United States.

The Alumni Class Gateway greets and welcomes its students, faculty, staff, and visitors with the inscription: “So enter that daily thou mayest grow in knowledge wisdom and love”, and bids those who leave the campus with the inscription: “So depart that daily thou mayest better serve thy fellowmen thy country and thy god”.

John Calhoun Baker University Center, a student activity center, serves as a home to its over 500 student organizations. The 168,000-square feet Charles J. Ping Recreation Center, built in honor of one of the school’s biggest student employers, is known as one of the largest recreational facilities in the United States. The Vernon R. Alden Library houses over 3 million volumes and boasts a 13th-century bible in its collection.

The East Green and South Green serve as the students’ home away from home. On the other hand, most of the school’s athletic facilities are found in the West Green which also features a line of cherry blossom trees that celebrates its ties with Japan’s Chubu University.

The Sports Administration and Facility Management, the first graduate program of its kind in the country which opened its doors to students in 1966, is known as one of the best of its kind while the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism is dubbed as one of the best journalism schools in the world.

Activist Paul Newman, voice actress Nancy Cartwright, and 2016 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting recipient Wesley Lowery, as well as 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry recipient Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, are some of Ohio University’s renowned graduates.

The Ohio Bobcats and its 16 varsity teams represent the university in the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference, with Rufus the Bobcat serving as its mascot.

The Princeton Review ranks OU as the #14 Most Beautiful Campus in 2014. US News and World Report rank Ohio University at #171 in National Universities and #91 in Top Public Schools, while it ranks #30 in Best College Campuses in America as reported by Niche.

Ohio University Acceptance Rate

Over 30,000 students attend Ohio University, where tuition fees range from $11,000 to $21,000 and annual expenses average at $36,000 annually. The university has an acceptance rate of 74% from over 26,000 applicants. Passing students generally have an SAT range of 1080 to 1260 out of 1600 and ACT range at 22 to 26. Students must pay a $50 application fee when applying for Ohio University.
