Deciding to study in the United States is a big step for any international student. If you’re pursuing a master’s or a doctorate, then you might be eligible to study in a program that offers Day 1 Curricular Practical Training. This means that you’ll be working and receiving a salary as you pursue your studies.

Why do these programs exist? The idea is to provide students the opportunity of gaining real-life experience in their chosen field. In this article, we will be looking at universities that offer Day 1 CPT.

However, not all programs or universities offer this option to their students. It’s much more common that this practical knowledge is required only after the first year of studies. However, in the case of some universities, this requirement can be applied from day 1. Here, we have compiled some of the institutions that offer this type of program.

1. University of the Cumberlands

This institution is located in Williamsburg, Kentucky. The university is based on Christian values as Baptist ministers founded it. The majority of the programs they offer are related to liberal arts. There are degrees available for undergraduates but there are also masters and doctorate programs.

This day 1 CPT university offers programs that vary from Physician Assitant Studies to Psychology and Business Administration. Education is also one of the core programs offered in this institution at all levels. Students interested in doing a doctorate program in psychology are required to pursue research as one of the main bases for the degree.

2. United States University

This university is located in the beautiful city of San Diego, California. There are numerous Day 1 CPT  programs available for people interested in a wide variety of subjects. Some of these are in health sciences but business degrees are available as well, to mention a few.

This university was founded only 22 years ago, making it a relatively new institution in the country. Since its foundation, this college was oriented towards helping immigrants to validate their degrees in the United States. There are graduate and undergraduate programs available; however, graduate programs only include masters so far.

3. Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt University was founded in 1873 and it carried the name of Cornelius Vanderbilt. The reason for this is that he was the main sponsor of said institution. This institution is not as big as others are but it has four undergraduate schools as well as six graduate schools. It also is one of the universities that offer Day 1 CPT.

Despite the small number of schools, there are numerous programs offered. Approximately 12,800 students from the student population. One of the main features of this institution is the impressive library located there with a group of libraries with over eight million items in the entire collection. This is a great asset for students enrolled in this university.

 

4. New Jersey Institute of Technology

New Jersey Institute of Technology, located in New Jersey, is very research-oriented. It was founded in 1881 and it started with a focus on engineering, which later expanded to other disciplines. There are over 10,000 students enrolled and there are more than 66 graduate programs available for aspiring students.

The variety of offers has widened so much that there are now law and healthcare programs for select students. There is a huge number of notable alumni as many scientists and engineers have done research or obtained degrees in this institution. Lately, disciplines in the humanities such as art and design have become part of the curriculum.

5. International Technological University

This university is located in San Jose California and it only offers master’s and doctorate programs. Therefore’ it’s quite a small institution, which was founded relatively recently, in 1994. The programs offered range from a doctorate in Philosophy to a master in Science in Software Engineering, showing great versatility within the institution.

Since its foundation, the university has been expanding and its campus has been in continuous development to be able to accommodate its growing faculty and students. For certain programs, such as engineering programs, the university offers the use of laboratories.

 

6. Campbellsville University

Next on our list of Day 1 CPT universities are Campbellsville University. This institution is located in Kentucky and it offers a wide variety of degrees, from associate to master. This small institution is home to over 4,000 students. It started as a Baptist institution but it hasn’t been so since 2014.

However, they are committed to promoting values aligned with their foundation. Some of the main schools on this campus are the school of education, arts, and music, showing the predominance of humanities at this institution.

7. Westcliff University

Another Day 1 CPT university located in California is Westcliff University. This institution is specifically located in Irvine. There are two major colleges, which are the college of education and the college of business. The college of business offers everything from undergraduate to graduate degrees, which include master’s and doctorate programs.

 

8. Trine University

Located in Indiana, this institution was founded in 1884. There are numerous programs offered at this university, including business, engineering, and arts. Trine has been steadily growing for the past few years and it now has different campuses throughout the state. Classes tend to be small, with up to 15 students per class, which allows for personalized attention for the students.

 

9. Lindenwood University

This Day 1 CPT university started as a school for girls founded in 1827. Ever since numerous changes have taken place. From a small cabin, the university now has numerous buildings and it offers degrees for undergraduate and graduate students at all levels. Some of them are in mass media communications and others are related to health sciences.

 

10. Monroe College

This institution is located in one of the busiest cities in the United States. Located in New York City, it was founded in 1933 and it started as a business school for women only. These days, programs in hospitality and culinary science are also part of the curriculum, among many others. Master programs in computer science and business administration are eligible for Day 1 CPT.

 

These are only some of the numerous universities that offer Day 1 CPT. It’s important to notice that only some programs within these institutions are eligible for such a working condition. Therefore, it’s important to verify if your area of study is one of them.
