University of Kansas Scholarships

The University of Kansas (also known as KU) is a public research university in the Kansas state of US with its main campus located in the beautiful city of Lawrence. The university was founded in 1863 by the governor of Kansas at that time. As of now, the University of Kansas comprises of 13 academic schools which offer more than 350 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The university offers degree programs in architecture, designing, planning, health, engineering, liberal arts, law and various other professions. The university is ranked as doctoral university with very high research activity. With more than 3,50,000 alumni members including 3 Noble laureates, the university is known to produce high-quality researchers and scholars for the world. In this article, we will be looking at the scholarships offered at the University of Kansas.

The University of Kansas provides academic and research opportunities to the students coming from all over the world. In addition, the university also provides a platform to its students to explore and develop their skills and talents. The debating club at the University of Kansas has won more debating competitions than any other university in the state. The university also has around 16 sports teams that compete at club level. These include volleyball, ice hockey, rugby, baseball etc.

The University of Kansas has a total student body of 30,000 students including 2,000 international students from more than 100 countries of the world. The international students at the University of Kansas are provided a number of scholarship so that they can meet their expenses during their stay in a foreign country. Some of these scholarships are listed below.

 

University of Kansas Undergraduate Scholarships

1. KU International Excellence Award

The University of Kansas awards merit excellence scholarship to the international undergraduate students with exceptional academic record. This award is available for both fresh and transfer students. A minimum GPA of 3.5 or greater is required to be considered eligible. SAT score and English proficiency exam is also required in case of fresh students.

The students can apply for this scholarship by submitting an online form at the official website of the University of Kansas. After final selection, the selected students are given an annual tuition fee waiver by the university which covers up to $25,000.

 

2. KU International Merit Award

It is also a merit based scholarship provided by the University of Kansas to its international undergraduate students. Only fresh undergraduate students are considered for this scholarship. The students must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 to apply for this scholarship. This University of Kansas scholarships is given to the students who join the university in fall or spring semester. Students with good score in SAT exam are preferred. The English proficiency exam is not required for this scholarship. Those students who qualify for this award are given an annual stipend of $9,000.

 

3. KU International Distinction Award

The international students who are unable to get KU International Excellence Award or Merit Award can apply for the Distinction Award. This University of Kansas scholarships is only for fresh undergraduate students at University of Kansas. The requirements of this award are same as that of the KU International Merit Award. However, the selected students are given an annual stipend of $6,000 as compared to $9,000 given to the recipients of merit award.

 

4. KU International Achievement Award

If you are unable to get any of the above mentioned awards for international students, you can still apply for the Achievement Award. Only first year international undergraduate students are able to apply for this award. Like Distinction Award, the requirements for this award are also the same. It is also available in spring, fall and summer; all the three terms in a year. The stipend given to the students in this award is less than any of the other international awards. The selected students get an annual scholarship of $3,000.

Note: A student can get only one of the three international awards. It is not permissible for a student to apply for other awards if he is already receiving on of the international awards offered by the University of Kansas.

 

5. KU International Transfer Scholarship

This scholarship by the University of Kansas is exclusively for the international transfer students at the University of Kansas who are enrolled in one of the undergraduate programs. It is a merit based scholarship and only a limited number of students are selected each year. The students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or above to apply for transfer scholarship. The selected students are given an annual scholarship ranging from $3,000 to $7,000 per year. The students can also apply for the renewal of the scholarship every year provided that they maintain their CGPA at the University of Kansas.

 

6. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

This University of Kansas scholarship is provided to the international undergraduate students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa community and are transfer students. All the PTK members can apply for this scholarship who have a minimum CGPA of 3.25 or above. SAT exam and English proficiency exam is not required for this scholarship. The selected students are given an annual scholarship of around $11,000 per year. The students can apply for this scholarship in spring, summer or fall terms.

 

University of Kansas Graduate Scholarships

1. Graduate Assistantship

The University of Kansas provides graduate assistantships to its graduate students so that they can fund their tuition fee. Only students who are admitted in a graduate degree program are eligible for assistantship. A limited number of students are selected each year as graduate assistants. The graduate assistants (GA) at University of Kansas are required to work 20 to 30 hours a week. In return of their services, the graduate assistants are given tuition fee waiver as well as a considerable monthly salary.
