8. Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology

Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, or ITS, was founded in 1957 as Sepuluh Nopember Technical College. At the time it had only two departments, but due to the inspiration and support of President Sukarno, the institution has grown to be one of the best in the country. Currently, it has 27 departments categorized into five faculties.

ITS has more than 23,000 students (20,400 undergrads and 2,600 postgraduates) and about 1,000 faculty members. As such, the ratio of lecturers to students is 1:20, which is quite impressive. However, to make it to the institution, you will have to go past its highly-selective admission criteria. Based on the last cycle, only 48% of all applicants were accepted to the institution. Nonetheless, it remains a university with some of the highest acceptance rates in Indonesia.
