The country of Denmark has around six million inhabitants, with the Faroe Islands and Greenland having approximately another 100,000 inhabitants. Denmark belongs to one of the most progressive and prosperous nations in the world. For example, both healthcare and education are paid for by taxes so every Dane has the right to access quality education and healthcare. Moreover, the country is considered to be the least corrupt government in the world.

Education is funded by the government, this includes students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland or those who have a permanent residence permit at the time of your application. Students who do not fall into this category are required to pay tuition. These range between 8,000 – 21,000 USD (6,000 – 16,000 euros), depending on the institution.

If you plan to study higher education in Denmark, know that universities in the country are selective, especially for admitting overseas students. However, there are several universities that accept most students – both domestic and international. In this article, we will present to you the top three universities in Denmark that have the highest acceptance rate for their undergraduate programs.

Universities in Denmark with High Rates of Acceptance

1. Aarhus University

The first university on our list is Aarhus University. The university was founded in 1928 in the Danish city of Aarhus. In recent history, AU has been consistently taking up a spot in the most highly acknowledged top university rankings. For example, the university is placed high in university rankings like Shanghai Ranking and Times Higher Education World Rankings. Huffington Post even recognized Aarhus University as one of the most beautiful universities in the world, which might not be as important but could make your years studying at Aarhus University even more enjoyable.

This university has a rich history, known to be a modern university that has grown to be a very important research institution that covers all the topics of modern science. Because of this, most lecturers at AU are actively involved in research and aim to bring this way of scientific thinking and analysis to their students.

All of the programs AU offers are heavily involved in research and innovation. The university is very international-friendly as it offers more than 60 programs that are fully taught in English, both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Aarhus University has multiple locations. Next to the main campus in Aarhus, Denmark, it also has campuses in the Danish cities of Herning and Emdrup.

2. Aalborg University

Next up is Aalborg University in the Danish city of Aalborg. This port city is the fourth largest in the country with a population of around 140,000 citizens. Aalborg is located in the northern part of the country and has been an important harbor since the Middle Ages. Later in history, it became a bustling industrial center.

Aalborg University is a public university that was founded in 1974. The university has a campus in Esbjerg since 1995 and a campus in the capital city of Copenhagen since 2005. The institution has developed its own method of teaching, called the Aalborg model. This model for problem-based learning has been highly accredited both in the country and internationally. For students, this means that each semester they will be working closely together in groups to complete a large written assignment. This will make sure that students who complete their degree at AAU will be highly skilled in problem-solving and will acquire relevant skills that are needed in the job market. Graduates will be both academically and socially equipped to tackle challenges ahead when starting their careers.

As has already been mentioned above, international students are required to pay a tuition fee but will be able to apply for free health care and hospitalization if they have received a residence permit for Denmark. Bachelor’s and master’s degrees are offered in Danish or English through an abundance of departments.

AAU is part of the Erasmus program, which offers international students opportunities to enroll in exchange programs in countries around the world, both bachelor’s and master’s programs.

3. Roskilde University

The third and final institution that we will present to you in this article is Roskilde University. This public university was founded at around the same time as Aalborg University, in 1972. It is therefore also the youngest university on our list. The university is located in the eastern part of the Roskilde municipality in the city of Trekroner. RUC offers study programs at all levels.

The university focuses mainly on contributing to new and innovative research projects that will contribute to the development that society is currently going through. In order to prepare its students for the complexity of challenges that the world will face in the future, all of the programs at RUC are interdisciplinary so students will be equipped with the correct tools to be able to solve these complex problems and become researchers, leaders, and professionals of tomorrow.

Bachelor’s degrees at Roskilde University will take three years to complete, with the first year being the basic introduction section where students will get acquainted with the methods and theories of the subject. The second and third years of the program will give students room to dive deeper into the areas they are interested in. This allows students to shape their own academic path after acquiring the basic knowledge that is necessary. A bachelor’s degree consists of around 50% course work, and 50% project work, where students from different disciplines will combine their theory and knowledge to find new solutions to modern-day problems.
