How to Study in Ukraine for Free

1. Study hard and prepare your application early to have a good application

Choosing to study abroad takes long years of preparation through studying and maintaining excellent grades in school. Since your application will speak of your intention to join your chosen university, it has to showcase every achievement and potentials gained through your years in school. Your GPA, grades, test scores, and academic awards should help you to study in Ukraine for free since the admission committee should accept your application without any reservations.

3. Apply to affordable universities in Ukraine

As previously mentioned, your costs of studying in Ukraine are relatively cheaper. Most universities in the country charge around $1,200 to $5,000, with some programs more expensive than others. It would also help if you considered the language of instruction of your selected program. Some programs, such as English-taught Dentistry and Medicine, costs around $4,000 to $5,000 annually, while others fall on the $2,000 to $3,000 range.

You can apply to several universities in Ukraine that offer low tuition costs. One of these is the Kharkiv State University of Railway Transport, with tuition fees ranging between $600 to $1,100 per year. Another university with affordable tuition costs is the Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University, ranging between $1,600 to $2,000 yearly.

Study Undergraduate in Ukraine for Free

Besides being affordable, you can also get your undergraduate degree in Ukraine for free through scholarships. The National Technical University of Ukraine Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute offers scholarships to almost 80 percent of its student body. Some of the scholarships it provides with the Ukrainian government’s help are from the President of Ukraine Scholarships, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Scholarships, and Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Scholarships. Recipients of the scholarships receive permanent monetary support, the amount regulated by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Uzhhorod National University lists several scholarships from private organizations worldwide. Some of these are the National Foundation for Political Science, Eurasia Foundation, and the International Association of Students in Economics and Business. Depending on your home country, you might be able to get a fully-funded scholarship through these options.

Study Master’s in Ukraine for Free

You can take your studies further through a Master’s program in Ukraine. While many countries offer graduate degrees at high costs, universities in Ukraine offer affordable programs. For example, the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University has a master’s program for as low as $250. Even better than this is Uzhhorod National University, which offers several scholarship programs to international students. International students can study for a Master’s in Ukraine for free through its affiliation with private organizations such as Fulbright Graduate Program and Visegrad Scholarship Program.

The National Technical University of Ukraine also offers the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Scholarships for international students. You can choose different kinds of academic scholarships to apply for, such as the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Scholarships and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Scholarships. Similarly, with undergraduate scholarships, successful applicants receive permanent monetary support for their studies.

Study Ph.D. in Ukraine for Free

Many universities and institutes worldwide encourage research studies through various forms of scholarships, grants, and fellowships. Ukraine is an excellent destination to pursue a Ph.D. as it has universities that offer financial support to international students. The University of Ivan Franko, Lviv, provides doctoral candidates the opportunity to study in Ukraine for free. Successful applicants and nominees receive grants from the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy offers doctoral candidates the opportunity to pursue their degree in Ukraine through the Erasmus + program. This program provides funding to support training, youth, education, and sports in the European Union countries, as well as selected partner countries, including Ukraine. Besides these options, doctoral candidates in Ukraine can also apply for assistantships to study for free.
