Penn State International Admissions Guide

There are series of steps needed to accomplish before becoming a student of Penn State. International students can choose between two methods of application, it’s either through MyPennState or Common App. Submission dates of application vary on applicant type and program of choice.

If applying through MyPennState click apply online. The student will be asked to provide academic history and to complete Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) except students educated in South Korea. After that student will need to complete the Program of Study portion. If Common App will be used, it will direct the student to MyPennState to provide SRAR.

It is recommended to obtain an official copy of the student’s transcript to ensure accurate entry of data. Wait for verification of application and once verified, the student will be asked to submit admission requirements. It is advised to always check the admission status using the MyPennState profile until the admission decision has been made.

International students are required to pay for a non-refundable application fee amounting to $75.

Admissions Requirements at Pennsylvania State University for International Students

The following supplemental material is advised to be submitted for the purpose of reviewing the international student application. First is the academic record, all first-year student who completed SRAR and accepted an offer of admission is required to submit secondary school transcript as early as possible.

For graduate students, post-secondary records are to be submitted indicating all subjects studied each year and the mark earned, and also the course description. Second is English Proficiency, international students whose native language is not English must show evidence of English proficiency. Pennsylvania State University Topped 18th among public schools, hailed as No. 30 for “Best Colleges for Veterans”, and ranked 57th among national universities based on U.S News and World Report’s2020 ‘Best College’ Rankings.

Their online programs were also awarded as top 8th (tied) for best online bachelor’s program in the country and No.6 (tied) for PSU’s online bachelor’s program for veterans. The university also ranked 35th among 767 international universities and 3rd in the U.S. based on Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings.

More than that, PSU ranked No. 54 out of 2,000 schools, and No. 43 in the U.S. in the recent Center for World University ranking and according to the Institute of International Education, Penn State ranked 13th in the U.S for universities hosting an international student in 2018 to 2019.

Pennsylvania State University Acceptance Rate

Being moderately selective, the Pennsylvania Acceptance rate based on Niche.com is 76% with an estimated 95,000 applicants. Students applying at Penn State have an average SAT subject test score between 1073-1310 or about 530-640 per subject and an average ACT score of 23-30.

Undergraduate Scholarships

1. Penn State Tuition Assistance Grant (PSTAG)

  • Scholarship Amount: $100 to $2000

Penn State Tuition Assistance Grant (PSTAG) is a scholarship given to non-immigrant undergraduate students in PSU. This Penn State scholarship is awarded per semester basis and can be applied multiple times as often as the student desires. Grants are given based upon academic performances, endorsement from the adviser, and gravity of financial needs. Those Freshmen and students possessing below-standard GPA (minimum 2.0) will not be considered for PSTAG.

2. Korea/Japan Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association Scholarship

Korea Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association Scholarship is a small grant given for students whose culture, ethnic, and national background contributes to the diversity of students at Penn State. Students from the Republic of Korea or Japan and who are currently enrolled at Penn State are eligible for this Penn State scholarship grant.

Graduate Scholarships

1. University Graduate Fellowships

University Graduate Fellowship is a prestigious Penn State scholarship given to incoming students as financial aid and it increases depending on the college funding. The Fellowship program comes with a health insurance subsidy. The Graduate school sponsor 100 University Graduate Fellowships and the selection are made at the college level.

2. Teaching and Research Assistantship

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition waiver + monthly stipend

The assistantship is given as financial support to the completion of postgraduate education. About 4,000 assistantships are granted per year. To contribute to the student’s professional development, Assistantship must be related to the graduate student’s field of study and whatever possible connected student’s program of study. It may demand service in the classroom or laboratory, in research, or other areas of the campus, with the privilege of professional development heightened by the university setting.
