There is only a small percentage of international students at Mississippi State University. Only 3.22% or 741 out of 22, 986 enrollees of MSU are foreign nationals coming from 75 countries around the world. Tuition Fee at MSU for International Students

The tuition fee for undergraduate programs varies depending on your enrolment type (full or half time), residency (lives in and out of campus), and nationality( in or out of state). An international or out-of-state student who lives inside the university will generally have a higher Cost of Attendance than the rest at $34,400 per year for full-time and $14,500 for part-time. In-state-students only pay $19,300 (full time) and $14,200 (part-time). You will have lower fees if you live outside of the school as the cost of attendance includes tuition fees, books, room and board, transportation, and other personal expenses. Do note that the university charges only direct costs such as tuition, room, and board.

Graduate programs have similar financing structures as undergraduate studies, except that it does not include living in or out of campus for consideration. The graduate and undergraduate programs also have an equal amount of tuition at $4,455. Graduate Cost of Attendance is higher due to the increase in room and board costs which is only $1000-$5000 in undergraduate programs but almost $7000 per year in graduate courses.

International Admissions Guide at Mississippi State University

Like most USA schools, application for undergraduate programs at Mississippi State University can also be through the Common or Coalition portal. You do not necessarily have to pass your documents during the application, as long as you submit them before the admission deadline. Not to worry, as the university has a rolling admission policy, and you can submit until the 10th day after the semester begins.

If you are enrolling for the summer admission for graduate programs, you will have to apply from May 2 until July 7 of the previous year. On the other hand, the Fall application starts the same on May 2 but lasts longer until August 17. You can apply by submitting your requirements and pay the application fee online or directly to the Graduates admission office.

Application Fee

The application fee for MS resident undergraduate programs is $40, while it costs international students $60. Graduate programs also charge a higher application fee for non-MS residents at $80 when it is only $60 for domestic applicants.

International applicants for undergraduate programs are required to submit the following documents:

1. Freshman Non-Resident Academic Excellence Scholarship

The Freshman Non-Resident Academic Excellence Scholarship automatically awards international students who meet their academic performance requirements with financial aid. Starting from $6000 when your SAT score is 1100-1150 or your ACT score is 22-23, this Mississippi State University scholarship for international students can get up to a total of $20000 if your ACT or SAT scores are 30-36 and 1360-1600 and a base requirement of 3.00+ GPA. Additionally, you are eligible for an additional Study Abroad Scholarship amounting to $3000 once your ACT exceeds 35.

2. Freshman Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship 

International students that demonstrate academic achievement also automatically receive the Freshman Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship. Scholarship amount varies depending on your SAT, ACT, and GPA with the lowest condition of 22-26 ACT/1100-1250 and 3.00 GPA that grants a $28000 scholarship to the highest requirement of 33-36ACT/1450-1600 SAT and a GPA of 3.50+ that grants $58000. The Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship can is stackable with the non-resident academic excellence scholarship.

Graduate Scholarships

1. Graduate Assistantships

Graduate assistantships, a form of Mississippi State University scholarship for graduate students, are eligible for ‘regular’ or ‘contingent’ graduate students taking a graduate degree program at MSU. Assistantship classification includes graduate research, teaching, and service assistantships, with each of them having different responsibilities and duties to perform. A graduate assistant needs to work for a maximum of 20 hours. A graduate assistant with a ‘contingent’ status must satisfy the ‘regular’ admission status within the first period to retain their eligibility. Also, note that to be part of the graduate teaching assistant program, you must complete the Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Training Workshop.
