Although it enjoys being a rich country, the education system is subpar. However, in recent years, the government has given importance to education with its main initiative is to improve the education system at all levels. Top Law Universities in Qatar

1. Qatar University – College of Law

One of the prestigious law schools in the country is the College of Law at Qatar University. Law Studies were initially under the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, and it only became a separate faculty in 2006, naming it College of Law.

The faculty carries one undergraduate (LL.B.) program, two master’s (LL.M.) programs, one graduate certificate in Law Studies program, and one doctoral (Ph.D.) program. The bachelor’s program aims students to acquire necessary legal knowledge and skills and master the foundations of law. A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) will be awarded for students who have finished 123 credits in total.

The Master of Law (LL.M.) in Public Law and Master of Law (LL.M.) in Public Law are two highly focused postgraduate programs available in the university. Students interested in pursuing a career in the public and private sector are encouraged to take one of the offered specialized programs. Completing the program will require students to earn at least 33 credits. The program aims to provide students with advanced knowledge in their chosen specialization. For students who did not meet the requirements and have failed to be admitted to any of the master’s programs, the faculty allows candidates to take a Graduate Certificate in Legal Studies as an entryway to be admitted to the master’s program. The student must complete the 12 credits and must attain a 3.2 GPA. The program also limits students to finish the program in 1-2 years.

The faculty also offers a doctoral program that usually begins in the Fall semester. This is a three-year program with 60 credits.

2. Hamad Bin Khalifa University – College of Law

The College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University is one of the best law schools in Qatar that was recently established in 2015. It is an internationally recognized faculty that provide legal education at all levels. The institution’s primary goal is to produce industry leaders that will lead in the regional and international community.

There are currently four programs offered at the faculty: one Juris Doctor (JD), two master’s (LL.M.) programs, and one doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.). A Juris Doctor (JD) is a three-year program entirely taught in English. Admission to this program requires students to have a bachelor’s degree acquired from a reputable university with a minimum of 3.0 GPA.

The postgraduate programs offered are Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Economic and Business Law and Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Law and Foreign Affairs.

The LL.M. in Int’l. Economic and Business Law is a program aimed at law graduates and legal practitioners. The program’s concentration relies on issues within international trade and business fields. This study program can be completed in one year.

LL.M. in Int’l. Law and Foreign Affairs, on the other hand, is a 31-credit program that focuses on international law, foreign policy, and related issues on global affairs. The Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) is the highest degree offered in the faculty. This advanced study must be completed in three years, and holders of the program are qualified to have a career in the academic sector.
