Best Indonesia Scholarships

1. Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship

The KNB scholarship is the best scholarship in Indonesia for international students. It is provided by the government of the Republic of Indonesia which is governed by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture. The scholarship program provides assistance to qualified applicants applying for a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree from developing countries. The scholarship can be applied to 23 colleges and 1,207 study programs.

To apply for the scholarship, submit the following documents to the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate: the Invitation Letter from the KNB Scholarship website, passport, and school transcripts. Once the online application is completed, the selection process begins and results will be announced by the Indonesian Embassy. If you are chosen for the scholarship, you are given a full-tuition scholarship for 8 semesters (bachelor’s) and 4 semesters (master’s).

Moreover, other expenses are covered including a settlement allowance of IDR 1,500,000, a living allowance of IDR 2,750,000 per month, health insurance worth IDR 200,000 per month, and round trip plane tickets. If studying masters, expect to receive a research allowance of IDR 400,000 and a book allowance of IDR 350,000.

Generally, the scholarship is provided to those who reach the age requirements, school credentials, English proficiency test score, recommendation letter, proof of citizenship, and completed online application form.

2. SEARCA’s Joint Graduate Scholarship

The SEARCA Graduate Scholarship is awarded to applicants who are working in education, research, or government and are from SEAMEO member countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam. The subject area of focus should be in agriculture or related sciences with proposed thesis research about Accelerating Transformation Through Agricultural Innovation (ATTAIN). To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must not be over 35 years old for a master’s and not over 40 for a PhD.

The application procedure requires applicants to complete the SEARCA Scholarship Application Form online and upload required documents that are written or translated into English. Successful applicants for this scholarship in Indonesia will benefit from tuition and school fee waivers, airfare allowance, book and supplies allowance, medical insurance, thesis or dissertation support, and stipend for living expenses. The universities that accept scholars in Indonesia are Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) in Bogor, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in Malang, and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta.

3. Telkom University Scholarship Program

Telkom University (Tel-U) is a university in Bandung, Indonesia that focuses on ICT and business. Tel-U offers scholarships to all applicants around the world who can meet the general requirements. To be eligible for this Indonesia scholarship, the applicant should be a foreign citizen who can speak English, must not be over 25 years old, and have a high school degree (for bachelor’s) or a university degree (for master’s).

Eligible applicants will benefit from a full or partial tuition waiver, depending on the GPA for each year. A GPA of 2.25 to <2.50 covers 25%, 2.50 to <2.75 covers 50%, 2.75 to <3.00 covers 75%, and 3.00 covers 100% of the fees. Three scholarship types are available: Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3. Type 1 scholarship pays for the admission fee, tuition fee, and dormitory; type 2 covers the admission fee and tuition fee; type 3 covers only the admission fee.

The selection process is based on the applicant’s credentials including academic standing, motivation letter, English language skills, recommendation letter, CV, etc. There will also be an online interview and/or online written test. If you are accepted, they will send a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) through email.

4. Airlangga Development Scholarship

  • Eligible Degree: master’s, doctoral

The Airlangga Development Scholarship is awarded to excellent international students applying for a master’s or doctoral degree from developing countries. The programs available for study are focused on the subjects of natural, health, and social sciences. If you are accepted for the scholarship, you are given a tuition fee waiver with free visa conversion. Additionally, dormitory expenses and an IDR 2,500,000 per month insurance are also covered.

To qualify for this scholarship in Indonesia, you must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.00, in good overall health condition, and have good English language skills. The basic requirements needed to apply are a valid passport, a certified copy of school transcripts, an English test score (TOEFL or IELTS), motivation letter, research proposal, recommendation letter, and CV.

5. Gadjah Mada International Fellowship (GMIF)

The Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) offers the Gadjah Mada International Fellowship (GMIF), one of the best scholarships in Indonesia for international students. This scholarship is available to international students who demonstrate financial need and are from ASEAN member countries, China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. The GMIF offers a partial or full coverage scholarship. The GMIF Partial Coverage Scholarship includes tuition fee waiver, limited stay permit (ITAS), thesis research support of IDR 10,000,000, one semester of the Indonesian language program, airfare tickets, and health insurance.

The GMIF Full Coverage Scholarship offers the same benefits as the partial coverage, however, it includes additional support of living allowance expenses, student dormitory, and a thesis research support of IDR 15,000,000 for doctoral degrees. Eligible applicants must first be accepted in a master’s or doctoral program to be offered a scholarship. They should hold a bachelor’s degree if applying for a master’s, and a master’s degree for a doctoral. Moreover, it is expected to meet a GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0, with a good command of the English language.
