The world has just entered the earliest stage of the 21st century, yet we are witnessing rapid development in technology, science, business, and more. There is also a significant growth in online data that must be managed, stored, analyzed, and used for further advancement. As a result, governments and companies all over the world are seeking competitive and excellent data professionals.

While most people seek Data Science education in the UK, the US, or Europe, many Asian students find Singapore appealing. The country is home to some of the most prestigious universities for engineering in Asia and offers world-class degree programs. In addition, most universities in Singapore use English as the medium of instruction. The Singaporean Government also offers generous scholarships to international students.

Singapore is a small country with a very diverse cultural environment. International students can benefit from multicultural exposure and an excellent education system. In addition, graduates from neighboring countries seek employment in Singapore because it is one of the highest-paying countries in Asia with a stable economy. Let us take a look at the top universities for data science in Singapore!

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) officially opened in 1991 from the merger between the National Institute of Education (NIE) and the Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI). Despite being young, NTU became the largest and leading institution for data science in Singapore and ranked among the top universities in world rankings. It has expanded so much and currently hosts a student population of over 34,000.

To keep up with the global demand for data scientists, NTU offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The program provides a competitive curriculum that equips students with data science skills in various fields, such as health, business, and technology. In addition, students can also pursue a Master’s Degree in relevant fields, like Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Data Science, Business Analytics, and Financial Technology.

Undergraduate tuition fees range from SGD17,500 to SGD32,950 annually for international students. The program lasts four years for full-time students. On the other hand, Master’s Degree programs could lead to a career in data science the last one to two years and cost SGD55,600 to SGD61,000 per year.

2. National University of Singapore

In 1905, a group of businessmen opened a medical school. Over the years, the school expanded and went by many names. James Cook University (JCU) opened in Townsville, Australia, in 1970. It established its Singapore campus in 2003 as part of its internationalization initiative. The university offers Singapore-based students an opportunity to study in Australia for part of the program duration. Students can then get an Australian degree recognized internationally.

JCU is an excellent school for data science in Singapore that has many data-science-related programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Data Science, a Master of Business Administration in Analytics and Business Solutions, and a Master of Information Technology in Business Informatics. The Bachelor’s Degree costs SGD61,632, whereas the Master’s Degree programs range from SGD38,520 to SGD51,360.

The undergraduate programs last only two years—each year is divided into trimesters to help students earn their degree in a shorter period. The Master’s Degree programs last 12 to 16 months, depending on whether the students decide to study full-time or part-time.

4. Singapore Management University

The Singapore Management University (SMU) was established in 2000. In a little over twenty years, the university achieved international recognition, which has been part of its goal from the very beginning. Because of this, there is a steady influx of international students at SMU. Currently, the university hosts over 11,000 students—ten percent of the undergraduate and half of the graduate student population hail from other countries.

The SMU School of Computing and Information Systems is a leading institution for data science in Singapore that offers a Master of IT in Business (MITB) program with a constantly evolving curriculum to keep up with the trends in business and technology. Students may select an area of specialization among four tracks: Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation, or Financial Technology & Analytics. Whichever track students take, the university boasts a high employment rate among its graduates soon after graduation.

The program lasts one year for full-time students but can reach up to two years for students taking part-time studies. The tuition fee for the whole program costs SGD51,360. International students have to pay an additional SGD500 for registration and SGD100 for application.
