As a part of the California State University System, California State University Long Beach has gone through a lot of changes. The public research university was originally established in 1949 as the Los Angeles – Orange County State College which was renamed to Long Beach State College in 1950. It was then again renamed in 1964 as California State College at Long Beach, and finally settling with California State College, Long Beach in 1968. In this article, we will be looking at the acceptance rate at CSU Long Beach.

The university is located on a Puvugna, an old burial site and ancient village home to the Native American people Tongva. Its 322-acre campus designed by architect Edward Killingsworth showcases a minimalistic design while featuring landscapes and parks all throughout the campus.

The Student Union Building sits at the heart of the university, while the Walter Pyramid serves as its most recognizable landmark. Also dubbed as Long Beach Pyramid, Walter Pyramid serves as a sports complex for its students as well. The Rec and Wellness Center is a multi-purpose facility for athletics and recreation which caters to various sporting activities for its students.

California State University, Long Beach also operates the University Art Museum and Carpenter Performing Arts Center. The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is also home to a koi-filled pond which serves as a popular venue for weddings and receptions. It also hosts an annual garden and chrysanthemum as well.  It also operates the Desert Studies Center along with other California State University Campuses. The center is based in Zzyzx, California, and is dedicated to research in the Mojave Desert.

TV and film producer Steven Spielberg, TV director Chris Carter, singing duo Richard and Karen Carpenter of The Carpenters, and Microsoft Xbox supervisor Peter Moore, and special effects creator Stan Winston finished their studies California State University, Long Beach.

The Long Beach 49ers and its 19 sports teams represent the university in the NCAA Division I Big West Conference. Despite football being an American tradition, the university does not have a football team. However, its baseball team fondly called “The Dirtbags” is known as one of the strongest baseball teams on the West Coast, bagging over 9 Big West Conference championships and appearing in 17 of the last 20 conference tournaments.

Around 40,000 students attend California State University, Long Beach. The university is also home to over 300 student organizations. Tuition fees in the university cost around $5,000 to $17,000 annually, while yearly expenses are projected to be around $35,000. California State University, Long Beach is popular for its business management and marketing majors. It is ranked #26 in Regional Universities West and #3 in Top Public Schools according to US News and World Report, and #41 in 506 in Best Colleges for Criminal Justice in America according to Ranker.

Attending California State University, Long Beach is extremely competitive, having an acceptance rate of 28% from over 63,000 applicants. Passing students generally have an SAT range of 1020 to 1230 out of 1600, and an ACT range of 20 to 26. Students pay a $55 application fee when applying for California State University, Long Beach.
