Cardiff University consists of two different campuses which are within the city limits of Cardiff. The Heath Park campus is located one mile towards the north and is home to the Cardiff Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Healthcare Sciences. This is in the same location as the University Hospital of Wales.

The Cathays Park campus houses the rest of the campus facilities, including the 22 other academic schools and the Students’ Union. Additional facilities including the main libraries, lecture theatres and the sports facilities such as the swimming pools and sports centers are located here as well. When considering student life, students have access to shops, restaurants, nightclubs, and pubs within close proximity to the university premises.

The university provides an outstanding academic experience to around 21,000 undergraduates and 9000 postgraduate students. It celebrates its diversity with around 25% of both the staff as well as the student population hailing from outside the UK. Around 6500 international students study here and come from over 100 different countries.

Cardiff University has continuously proven its high academic standing and research-intensive education in Wales and has been declared the best center of excellence in the country for 5 consistent years (until it was overtaken by Swansea University in 2017). In terms of national rankings, the university has been ranked as 33rd by The Complete and 58th by The Guardian. Globally, it has been recognized as a Top 200 University in the world by both the QS rankings and the Times Higher Education. This university is one of the top universities in the United Kingdom. However, it does not have a low acceptance rate.

Cardiff is also the only university in Wales to be considered a part of the prestigious Russel Group of universities due to its strong focus and edge on research. Research Assessment Exercises have rated the university to have 33 out of 34 powerful research areas that are now considered world-leading and cutting-edge.

With an alumni network of over 140,000 drawn across 180 different countries, the university has produced famous graduates across numerous areas of study in the world. Academics have included two Nobel Laureates (in Chemistry and Medicine) and several more are members of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Academy. Alumni also include Huw Edwards (Journalist), Gillian Clarke (National Poet of Wales), Nicole Cooke (Olympic gold medallist), Roy Jenkins (Diplomat), Sir Martin Evans, and General David Richards.
