Ohio has some of the top-performing universities in the U.S. In addition to this, it has a thriving economy, making it a huge contender when deciding on where to study. The tuition fees vary widely, especially for international students. However, we will look at the cheap universities in Ohio for both domestic, out-of-state, and international students.

Cheapest Universities in Ohio

1. Wright State University Lake Campus, Celina

Wright State University names itself as one of the driving forces behind the revitalization of the region, encouraging scholarly research and economic and technological development. The university also takes part in meaningful community service, which provides a vital connection between the locals and students.

As you can see above, the out-of-state and international tuition fees are significantly higher than the in-state fees. Although this does not rule out out-of-state students, it is more of an attractive prospect for prospective students from Ohio since the in-state fees are among the cheapest in Ohio.

Central State University prides itself on excellent and affordable education. In addition to this, it is historically committed to the education of black Americans. It also has a diverse student body – focusing on recruitment of local and international students.

The in-state tuition fees of this university are remarkably low, making it an attractive and affordable option for students, in the area. Out-of-state and international fees are not too far behind and are some of the cheapest universities in Ohio. This is perhaps due to, in part, their efforts to diversify their student body, with focused recruitment of international students.

 

3. Miami University Hamilton, Hamilton

Miami University is a highly regarded public university and the Hamilton branch is the largest of the university’s regional locations. Despite this, the campus still manages to have a compact and friendly environment. It also has one of the cheapest in-state tuition fees in Ohio, which is astonishing considering its reputation.

Miami University Hamilton encourages learning inside and outside of the classroom, providing many athletic opportunities at a competitive collegiate level, which can make a great stepping stone into a more advanced sporting career.

 

4. Columbus State Community College, Columbus

  • In-State Tuition Fees – $3,808
  • Out-of-State Tuition Fees – $8,430
  • International Tuition Fees – $8,430

This community college is a brilliant choice as a stepping stone into a four-year college enrolment or even to prepare to go straight into the workforce. Its in-state tuition fees make it an attractive prospect, especially if looking to work in the area, as it focuses on local workforce needs.

The college encourages entrepreneurial and innovative leadership, which can help boost the local economy. When comparing the international tuition fees of this college to others listed here, the difference in cost is very apparent since this institution in Ohio has very cheap tuition fees. However, it must also be considered that this college is more of a precursor for the university experience and may not be exactly what international students are looking for when making a long-distance move for study.

 

5. Kent State University at Stark, Canton

Kent State University at Stark has the second-largest regional campus, in Ohio. Included on the campus are a unique 2.25-acre pond and research wetland facility. Although the campus is large, the university prides itself on its affordable education that still has the atmosphere of a private college.

There is a sizeable difference between the in-state and international tuition fees. However, 14% of the university population is made up of international students. Although the international fees are more expensive than other universities in Ohio, it makes a strong argument for it being the institution of choice for students from all over the world.

 

6. University of Cincinnati Clermont College, Batavia

  • Out-of-State Tuition Fees – $11,812
  • International Tuition Fees – $11,812

This university has a regional college environment with a focus on the development of the local community. Offering more than fifty associate, bachelor, and certificate programs, it provides students with associate degrees or certificates that enable them to go straight into the workforce.

The university prides itself on being rooted in sustainability. The location of the campus is set in the beautiful village of Batavia. The university encourages respect for the beauty of the location. As Batavia is such a small area, the university is more likely attractive to local young people. Its in-state tuition fees are also respectably cheap.

 

7. Ohio University Southern Campus, Ironton

Our final university in the list of cheapest universities in Ohio is the Southern campus of Ohio University. This is one of the five regional campuses within the system. It boasts small class sizes, which make for more personal instruction. It is noteworthy that the in-state tuition fees also apply to residents of the neighboring state of Kentucky.

This university has students from approximately 100 nations around the world. There is a large emphasis on ‘International week’, in which they celebrate a vast array of cultures. In addition to this, its international tuition fees are more than comparable to others in the state. The fact that this university puts such a strong emphasis on international relations makes it a strong contender and could make students from other countries feel very much at home.

 

Overall, Ohio holds many universities with cheap tuition fees. There is a variation of respectable institutions with a great degree of education excellence. In some cases, there does appear to be a large margin between in-state and out-of-state fees. This could be due to the state wanting to persuade Ohioans to actually remain in Ohio, in order to help further boost the local economy.
