Cleveland State University (CSU) is a public research academic institution in Cleveland, Ohio. Founded in 1964, it acquired Fenn College and started classes the following year. Moreover, in 1969, it obtained the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. At present, CSU is a member of the University System of Ohio offering at least 200 academic programs and counting at least 120,000 people as its alumni. This article will discuss the acceptance rate at Cleveland State University.

Cleveland State University offers 70 academic majors, two post master’s degrees, 27 master’s degrees, two law degrees, and six doctoral degrees. Also, it has cooperation agreements for research with NASA Glenn Research Center. When it started in 1965, it only had the colleges of education, arts and sciences, business administration, and engineering. Today, Cleveland State University has nine colleges and five specialty schools.

Notable programs at Cleveland State University are the School of Communication and the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs. The 2019 US News and World Report ranked the urban affairs college as thirteenth in the Local Government Management and fourth in the Urban Policy policies. Also, it ranked the School of Communication as the first terminal MA-granting program in the country and eighth in research productivity.

Cleveland State University’s College of Business is also in the top 10 in terms of its performance in the Certification Public Accountant licensure. Besides, the university is the first to provide a postgraduate degree in software engineering in the state of Ohio. Aside from its main campus in Cleveland, it also has a Westlake satellite campus.

In 2006, Cleveland State University renovated its Parker Hannifan Hall to become its College of Graduate Studies. Additionally, it completed its recreation center for its students. To encourage its students to live on campus, it built thousands of housing units. Fenn Tower, its most historic building, became the school’s new dormitory. In 2010, the university brought bus rapid transit in Euclid Avenue to connect it to downtown Cleveland’s Public Square. It planned to transform the academic institution to a residential campus with the construction of the Julka Hull and the Student Center.

The university collaborated with the South China University of Technology in 2012 to allow students to explore and receive double degrees. Also, it is in partnership with Northeast Ohio Medical University to train healthcare professionals in urban setting work. Recently, the State of Ohio funded the renovation of Playhouse Square to become its standalone film school.

The Cleveland campus has its student-run radio station with a 630-watt transmitter atop Rhodes Tower. Also, it has an independent student paper called The Cauldron and a School of Communication laboratory newspaper named The Cleveland Stater. In 2005, The Gavel and The Vindicator won first prize for the most excellent law school paper in the country. But, the campus doesn’t have a student television station even though it is offering majors in video and film productions. Athletic teams are competitive in 17 sports in the Horizon League.

Acceptance Rate at Cleveland State University

For the academic year 2016-2017, Cleveland State University had an acceptance rate of 88%. Applicants with SAT scores ranging from 990 – 1210 or ACT scores from 19-25 have a high chance of passing the university’s admission requirements.
