Dubbed as a “Public Ivy” school, the College of William and Mary is a public research university founded in 1693 through a written order by King William III and Queen Mary II. American presidents have pursued their studies in the university including Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, and John Tyler. George Washington and Margaret Thatcher have served as the college’s chancellors as well.
The William and Mary Tribe and its 23 sports teams represent the university in the NCAA Division I Colonial Athletic Association where it holds the greatest number of conference championship titles in the division. It shares a strong rivalry with the Virginia Cavaliers and James Madison University Dukes as well.
Over 9,000 students attend the College of William and Mary, and over 450 student organizations and clubs are based in the university. Tuition ranges from $16,000 to $37,000 annually, while total annual expenses are expected at around $60,000.
