Named after French priest St. Vincent de Paul, DePaul University is one of the largest Catholic schools in the United States. Founded in 1898, it started out under a different name but was soon renamed DePaul University in 1907. First-year students in DePaul University are required to participate in Discover and Explore Chicago, a program that gives an avenue for freshmen to familiarize themselves with the Chicago suburbs through experiential learning in order to help them adjust to college life while learning a thing or two from their environment. Students in DePaul University further extend their support to the community through the Vincentian Service Day.
