Known as the first Catholic and Jesuit college in the Northeastern United States and the third oldest university in New York, Fordham University is a private research university founded in 1841. Initially known as St. John’s College, it absorbed Marymount Colleges in 2002. Fordham University is home to a number of notable and famous graduates, including US President Donald Trump, who hosts the President’s Ball every autumn through the Office of the President; Hollywood actors Denzel Washington and Amanda Seyfried; illusionist and magician David Copperfield; actress Hilarie Burton; economist Adam Smith; and sports commentator Mike Breen.
The Fordham Rams’ 20 varsity teams represent the school in NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference, with the football team playing under the Patriot League. The university’s baseball team is renowned for having the most victories in Division I.
