1. Universidade de São Paulo

Brazil is a massive tourism hub, so it makes sense that one of its best universities would have extensive tourism and hospitality programs. As an undergraduate student at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), you’ll be able to choose between a number of study areas, including tourism planning, hospitality, gastronomy, cultural actions, etc. If you want to undertake further studies, the university also offers graduate and PhD programs in tourism.

USP is a free hospitality management school that places great emphasis on learning by doing. You’ll study not just in the classroom, but by visiting hotels, museums, restaurants, and other hospitality establishments. Students are also trained to be socially aware: there are plenty of people in Brazil living under the poverty line, and the USP regularly provides opportunities to undertake outreach programs and take special courses aimed at solving social problems.

Tuition is free to all hospitality and tourism students at the Universidade de São Paulo, including foreigners. Note that most classes are conducted in Portuguese.

FH Salzburg also offers a wide range of courses. It is one of the few universities that offer full degree programs in hospitality at an extremely low price point. Students here can take either an undergraduate or graduate degree in Innovation & Management in Tourism. Hospitality professors at FH Salzburg are thought leaders in the industry and are thus able to teach their students the latest practices and technology used in the hospitality sector.

FH Salzburg charges a very low tuition fee of 363 Euros per semester to both domestic and international students. Both the bachelor’s and master’s programs are conducted entirely in English.

3. Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences

The Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences has a number of campuses located all over Germany. It is one of the only universities in the country that offers a full degree program in hospitality. The Master of Arts in International Tourism Management gives students a global perspective of the industry. It also combines business and hospitality courses in an effort to train the next generation of hospitality managers.

The Heilbronn University is a free hospitality management and offers no-tuition education to EU students. Those from outside the EU need to pay a small fee of 1,500 euros per semester. The Master of Arts in International Tourism Management is taught entirely in English, so this is an option for you wherever you’re from.

4. Management Center Innsbruck

If you want to start your own hospitality establishment one day, the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) is for you. The MCI is a private business school in Innsbruck, Austria, with a strong emphasis on innovation in the hospitality sector. The university offers a Bachelor’s in Entrepreneurship, Tourism & Leisure Business and a Master’s in Entrepreneurship & Tourism.

Entrepreneurship is not something you can learn just by sitting in a classroom, and the MCI is well aware of this fact. Here, students go through a combination of theoretical and practical studies, including case studies and working at real-life hospitality establishments.

EU students only need to pay about 363 Euros per semester. The undergraduate degree is offered in either German or English, while master’s students need to know both languages.

5. Free University of Bozen – Bolzano

Another free hospitality management school, the Free University of Bozen – Bolzano (FUB) is located in South Tyrol, which is at the border between Italy and Germany. This provides its students with a rich cultural experience and the opportunity to learn two languages.

The FUB offers a Bachelor’s in Tourism, Sport, and Event Management and a Master’s in Tourism Management. It is one of the few universities in the world that offers a program solely in sports management, so if this is a sector you would like to work in, you should strongly consider the FUB. Both the undergraduate and graduate courses train students in cutting-edge techniques used by the hospitality industry.

All students at the FUB are only charged 2,500 USD a year, or 1,250 USD per semester. Note that the hospitality programs are taught in a mixture of Italian, German, and English, so you’ll need to know all three languages to study here.
