Marquette University is a private Catholic-affiliated university located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Founded in 1881, the non-profit university started as an all-male university but became the first co-educational Catholic university in 1909. Marquette University was named after Father Jacques Marquette, who was a missionary in the 17th century. The university was founded by John Martin Henni, who was also the first bishop of Milwaukee.
