Germany, a founding member of the European Union, is a modern and highly developed state situated in Western Europe with a history spanning over 2 millennia. Moreover, the country is home to over 83 million people making it the second-most populous country in Europe following Russia. It shares a border with Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxemburg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Germany is famous for its rich culture, centuries-old history, vibrant nightlife, and technological innovation.

Being so established, wealthy, and modern, it is not surprising that every year thousands of students choose Germany to study MBBS. This degree is considered to be one of the most sought-after programs in the entire world. That, coupled with Germany’s strong economy and high quality of education, makes Germany a highly attractive place to pursue medical education. Germany’s attractiveness is all the more accentuated by its being one of the most affordable countries in the world to study and live in. While the cost of education is prohibitively increasing every year in countries like the US and the UK, interestingly, you can get a high-quality MBBS degree in Germany without paying a cent. Besides, living costs in Germany are at times a fraction of the living costs in other Western cities. You can also easily get an internship with a relatively high stipend. All these factors make Germany an ideal destination to study, live, and develop your professional career.

Is Recommended to Study MBBS in Germany?

Whether pursuing a particular degree in Germany is a good idea or not primarily depends on the nature of the degree, the quality of available faculty concerning that particular degree, and the research facilities available in that particular field of study; however, one thing is certain that life and the education system in Germany are second to none. The mere fact that the number of students coming to Germany to pursue higher studies is exponentially increasing every year speaks volumes about the credentials of Germany as a student destination. Some of the most important reasons that make Germany an ideal place to do MBBS are as follows:

  • First of all, most of the medical universities in Germany are world-renowned. Besides, most of the German medical schools are recognized by intergovernmental organizations such as UNESCO and WHO. Also, most of the international medical and dental boards recognize German medical schools. Prominent among these are MCI (Medical Council of India), USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination), MCC (Medical Council of Canada), PMDC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council), PLAB (Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board) in the UK, SCHS (Saudi Commission for Health Specialties), HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa.
  • Secondly, Germany is one of the very few countries in the world that charge no tuition fees at all for any bachelor’s or master’s degree, including MBBS. Students are only responsible for their living costs and other general expenses.  Besides, living in Germany is relatively cheap, especially for students as they are provided with subsidized transportation and accommodation.
  • Thirdly, Germany is one of the strongest members of the EU. A medical graduate from a German medical school can easily opt to practice his/her profession in other EU countries. This is an invaluable incentive for young doctors and other medical professionals who want to diversify their practical experience and earn decent incomes. Receiving an EU work permit becomes much easier after a student has graduated with a medical degree in Germany.
  • Fourthly, many of the non-MD degrees in Germany are offered both in German and English. This can help students from most countries to thrive in the German environment and also to get more job opportunities.
