The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) was founded in 1911. At that time, it was called Middle Tennessee State Normal School. It was named a state college in 1943 but it wasn’t until 1965 that it acquired its current name. It went from offering only pedagogic courses for the preparation of teachers to broadening its offer to students on varied subjects. Currently, the university offers over 140-degree programs for undergraduates. From the College of Liberal Arts to the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, the curriculum at MTSU has widened extensively throughout the years. MTSU is a mid-sized university with 19,000 undergraduates enrolled and a campus of 550 acres. It’s located approximately 1 mile away from Tennessee’s center, in Murfreesboro. The city downtown is located less than 1.5 miles away. MTSU has different associations with numerous research centers and its Science building has up-to-date technology apt for innovative research programs. Additionally, MTSU programs aim to provide real-life experience to their students with learning plans that include activities related to the field of study. This has become one of the signature characteristics of MTSU.

Middle Tennessee State University’s philosophy encourages the students to get involved with the community. They have instated a True Blue pact in which students commit to principles of non-violence as well as respect for diversity. The athletic teams are the Blue Raiders. MTSU has teams in different disciplines, ranging from football to volleyball and including basketball and baseball. The golf and tennis teams have been especially important at a national level. Other athletic disciplines have won multiple regional awards throughout the years. If you want to attend, you can do so since the acceptance rate at Middle Tennessee State University is pretty high.

Acceptance Rate at Middle Tennessee State University

The MTSU acceptance rate is estimated at 59%, meaning that the odds favor the applicant. The university has two types of admissions, guaranteed and under review. Guaranteed admissions require a 3.0 GPA. If not, then the student must have a GPA of 2.7 or higher and an ACT score of 19. There are competitive scholarships offered to certain students. Those that have an ACT of 25 to 29 and a GPA starting at 3.5 get access to these opportunities. Furthermore, students with an ACT above 30 can opt for a larger scholarship. 44% of the students that enter the university exit with their degree, which is above the United States’ average.

Those students that don’t meet the requirements for guaranteed admission can make their case during their application, which will be reviewed carefully and might be granted conditional admission by the review committee. However, it’s preferable to comply with the initial academic requirements to have a better chance of being accepted.
