Set on a beautiful, 225-acres city campus, Missouri State is a public university located in Springfield, Missouri. The university was originally established in 1906 as a preparatory school for teachers. Since then, it has grown to become Missouri’s second-largest university by a number of students. In the 2019 U.S. News Best Colleges list, Missouri State University ranked number 111 in the Regional Universities Midwest category. During the 2018-19 academic year, the university’s in-state tuition fee amounted to almost $7,500, while its out-of-state tuition came up to $15,000. Missouri State University has a diverse range of undergraduate programs. It offers close to 100 bachelor’s degrees and at least 40 postgraduate degrees. The wide range of subjects and fields on offer include political science, agriculture, and accounting. Beyond academics, Missouri State has much for students to participate in. The university boasts more than 300 student-run societies and clubs, in addition to a host of sororities and fraternities. Missouri State features numerous annual on-campus events for students to enjoy. These include concerts, bowling nights, and poetry slams. The university’s varsities are known as the Missouri State Bears and compete at the Division I level of the NCAA. Missouri offers a wide range of sports at both intramural and varsity levels, including soccer, basketball, tennis, and golf. East Harrison Street houses 2 expansive intramural fields installed with artificial turf. In addition, the college’s Outdoor Adventures program lets students take part in outdoor sports such as rock climbing, camping, and kayaking. The university’s undergraduate student body comprises about 20,000 students, 11% of whom are out-of-state students and 3% of whom are international students. The female-male student ratio lies at almost 60:40 in favor of females. Missouri State offers college-owned housing for its students to live in, and about 25% of undergraduate students opt to reside in it. The campus offers a student-run newspaper, radio station and T.V. station, a marching band, a drama group, and choral groups.

Notable Missouri State University alumni include U.S. senator Roy Blunt, ex Missouri governor Bob Holden, and children’s T.V. show host Norma Champion.

Acceptance Rate at Missouri State University

At 84%, Missouri State University’s acceptance rate is very high. This translates to 8,000 acceptances from a cohort of 9,500 applications. The application fee is low, costing just $35. The average high school GPA for freshmen lies at 3.63. The average SAT Critical Reading score lies within the range of 510-625, while the average SAT Math score lies in the range of 510-620. The mean ACT score is 24. Other requirements include high school transcripts and, for some programs, an interview. During their time at university, in-state students receive, on average, a financial aid package of $11,700, while international students receive an average financial aid package of $9,000.
