Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) assist patients in their daily activities. They also help patients in their healthcare needs and are supervised by Registered Nurses (RNs). 1. Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician Program is designed for individuals who want to start a career as a PCT in Florida. It is also designed for individuals who want to take the Certified Nursing Assistant examination of the Florida State Board of Nursing. Students must pass the exam before they are allow to practice as a PCT.

The program prepares students with a better understanding of the role of nursing assistants for long-term care settings. This nursing assitant course also provides them with the knowledge and skills required for the profession. Students go through six occupational completion points where they gain specific competencies required for their future role as a nursing assistant. The students have the option of continuing with the next training program or opt to exit and practice at the given completion point. They start with the Nursing Aide completion point and end with the Patient Care Technician completion point. The students have the option of attending day classes, which last for 16 weeks, or evening classes for 32 weeks.

Classes of this four to eight-month course are held at the Care Hope College.

 

2. Nursing – Certified Nursing Assistant

  • Northwest College

The Nursing – Certified Nursing Assistant is designed for individuals looking forward to a career as a nursing aide. The course is one of the Allied Health course offered ta the Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, USA. After taking the course, students will be eligible to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam of the Wyoming State Board of Nursing.

The course provides students with the theories and principles on nursing care. It also provides them with the necessary skills and knowledge in dealing with patients in a healthcare situation. The students will become aware of state and federal laws and the policies and guidelines applicable within the industry. They will also have a better understanding about the different needs of patients, including their physical, mental, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs. The course combines theory, laboratory practice and practical application. The 45-hour theory segment in the nursing assitant course aims to provide the necessary training based on the requirements set by the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987. This standard requirement is necessary for nursing assistants working in healthcare and nursing facilities. Similarly, the 30-hour clinical or practical application segment meets the requirements of the same act. After completing the course, the students will be eligible to take the nursing aide exam in the state of Iowa.

Classes of this 75-hour course are held at the North Iowa Area Community College.

 

4. Licensed Vocational Nurse Course

  • Hamilton College

The Licensed Vocational Nurse Course is designed for individuals aiming to meet the requirements to become a vocational nurse in the state of California. The course also makes students eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam.

The course has four modules with the first module meeting the requirements necessary for students to take the Nurse Assistant Certification and Clinical Performance Examination in the state of California. Students will learn basic nursing skills necessary for direct patient care. The students will also have a better understanding of the nursing process and apply Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in providing care for their patients. The students will also learn how to document the care services provided to the patients. They will also help nurses and doctors in treatments and diagnostic procedures of patients.
