SNU International Students

Today, the total number of international students is about 5,600 students. There are approximately 765 students enrolled in a master’s program, 289 in doctoral programs, 196 in bachelor’s programs, and the rest are enrolled in other programs. Seoul National University Tuition Fee for International Students

The tuition fee varies according to department and major. The tuition fee for international undergraduate students per semester is between KRW 2,442,000 (approx. USD 2,140) and KRW 5,038,000 (approx. USD 4,410). Colleges that cost KRW 2,442,000 are College of Humanities, College of Social Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Education, and College of Human Ecology. Other costs are KRW 5,038,000 for College of Medicine, KRW 3,916,000 for the College of Music, and KRW 3,653,000 for the College of Fine Arts.

The tuition fee for international graduate students per semester can range from KRW 3,278,000 (approx. USD 2,870) to KRW 5,789,000 (approx. USD 5,070). Departments that cost KRW 3,278,000 are College of Humanities, College of Social Sciences, College of Business Administration, Humanities and Social Sciences from College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and College of Education, and Graduate School of Public Administration. For other majors, the College of Veterinary Medicine costs KRW 5,789,000 (approx. USD 5,070), College of Law costs KRW 3,278,000 (approx. Application Fee at Seoul National University

The application fee for international undergraduate students is KRW 70,000 or USD 60 and KRW 90,000 or USD 80 for graduate students. When you are given an application number, it means the application has been completed. Once the application is complete, it is non-refundable and you can no longer cancel or change the application details such as admission type or program.

SNU Admissions Requirements for International Students

International undergraduate students who wish to apply should attain a high school diploma equivalent to Korea’s high school education and the applicant and the applicant’s parents should be non-Korean citizens.

Moreover, the applicant should be able to acquire the necessary documents for online submissions such as the application form, personal statement, study plan, recommendation letters, proof of language proficiency, transcripts, certificate of nationality of applicant and parents, and other additional documents.

For aspiring graduate students who are applying for a master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree is required and for those applying for a doctoral degree, a master’s degree is required. Both the applicant and the parents should be non-Korean citizens and must hold a TOPIK Level 6 proficiency certificate for selected departments or majors.

To complete the application, the documents required to submit are the application form, personal statement, study plan, two recommendation letters, proof of language proficiency, degree certificates, transcripts, certificate of nationality, certificate of parent-child relationship, portfolio and other supplementary materials.

The exact acceptance rate is not clearly stated by the university. However, based on other sources the acceptance rate is typically in the range of 10%-20% but it can be lower for international students. Undergraduate Scholarships

1. Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP)

International students have the opportunity to be granted a scholarship by the Ministry of Education. This generous scholarship at Seoul National University covers monthly allowances, language training, tuition, health insurance, roundtrip airfare tickets, and other school material costs.

The duration of the scholarship covers one year of the Korean language course and four years for a Bachelor’s degree. The Korean language course is mandatory and is taken at the university. To be qualified for KGSP, applicants should acquire a GPA above 80% from the previous school attended.

2. Global Hope Scholarship

To be qualified for the Seoul National University scholarship for international students, only those coming from the developing countries in the DAC list of ODA Recipients are allowed to apply. The scholarship covers the living expenses of KRW 600,000 or USD 530 per month for maximum coverage of eight semesters.

Graduate Scholarships

1. SNU President Fellowship (SPF)

Eligible applicants must be admitted to SNU as a PhD student, must come from developing countries, is a faculty of a top university, and is not holding a PhD. degree. This SNU scholarship for international students covers the first three years of the PhD program and can be renewed to a maximum of six semesters in the condition that the student maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Once granted, the student receives a waived full tuition fee, KRW 1,500,000 or USD 1,320 monthly stipend, Korean language training, Group Medical Insurance (only for an awardee), and roundtrip airfare.

2. SNU Global Scholarships I, II

About 60 graduate students per semester receive this scholarship at Seoul National University. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants should be enrolled in a graduate program at SNU. SNU Global Scholarship I covers one year of tuition or up to four semesters, a monthly allowance of KRW 1,200,000 or USD 1,000, and an economy plane ticket for freshmen only. To renew the scholarship, students should maintain a 3.0 GPA. For SNU Global Scholarship II, it covers only the tuition for one year or four semesters and a Korean Language Evening Class for ten weeks.
