China is considered the most populated country in the world. Cities are packed with people and there is a great struggle among people to get to higher living standards. To progress in this world, China has invested a lot in its higher education in the past decade. China currently has over 3000 educational institutions. Currently, about 500,000 international students are studying in various Chinese Institutions. Most of these students belong to South Korea, Japan, the US, Thailand, and India.

Because of the increasing demand for Chinese Education, the acceptance rates of many Chinese Universities have become very low. So, getting into the top universities has become relatively difficult.

Universities in China with Low Rates of Acceptance

1. Peking University

Peking University is among the top two universities present in the country. It was founded as a public university in 1898 and is well-known for its traditional Chinese architecture. The university has always retained its prestigious position among the top-ranked universities in the world.

Because of its popularity and research programs, enrollments in the university are getting harder. Peking University is one of the universities in China with the lowest acceptance rates. Almost 40,000 are currently enrolled in the various degree programs and about 2000 international students are getting admission to the university every year.

2. Nanjing University

Nanjing University is one of the best public universities present in China. It was founded in 1902 as Sanjiang Normal School. It attained the status of a university in 1950. Shanghai Ranking ranked Nanjing University as the 7th best university in China. It is very well known for its strict admission criteria and is considered the most selective university in China. This explains its low acceptance rate.

The university offers graduate and undergraduate degree programs and courses. Most of the programs are also offered in the Chinese language.

3. Xiamen University

The main campus of Xiamen University is located in the Siming District in southwestern Xiamen. It was founded in 1921 and was known as Amoy University. Since then, the university has continuously retained top ranking among the Chinese Universities. This Chinese university with the lowest acceptance rates is well-known for its excellent academic programs in medicine, fine arts, journalism, communication, economics, management, mathematics, law, and chemistry.

Xiamen University is quite famous among international students too. The international students represent more than 10% of the total students at Xiamen University.

4. Tsinghua University

Tsinghua University is considered the best public research university present in China. With its main campus in the Haidian district, it was founded in 1911. Tsinghua University is best known for its engineering programs. The university attracts several students from around the world.

More than 36,000 students are enrolled in various disciplines at Tsinghua University. The university is home to more than 4000 international students from India, Thailand, Pakistan, and other countries of the world.

5. University of Science and Technology of China

The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) is a public university famous for its research contributions to the science and technology development in the country. It is in located Hefei, in the Anhui province of China. USTC was founded in 1958 in Beijing. However, in 1970, the university was moved to Anhui province in Hefei.

University of Science and Technology has taken the leading position among other Chinese universities like Peking University and Tsinghua University. Currently, there are almost 16,000 students enrolled at this university in China with low acceptance rates These students are a total of both locals and foreigners. The total number of faculty members who are serving at USTC is close to 3,600.

6. Fudan University

Fudan University is a well-known university located in Shanghai. This university was founded in 1905. It has developed over time and now comprises four campuses in Shanghai.

Fudan University has over 2,600 faculty members which comprise high-level researchers and teachers. The education standard of Fudan University is quite high because of the research projects. There are about 46,000 students enrolled at Fudan University, and among them, about 1,800 are international students.

7. Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Shanghai Jiao Tong University is another highly renowned university present in China. It was built in 1896 and was known as Nanyang Public School. The university has developed with time and attained a renowned position among the top universities in China. Because of its prestigious position worldwide, many students aim to get admission to this university. It is famous for several research facilities available to the students. About 38,000 students are currently enrolled at Shanghai Jiao Tong University including 3400 international students.

8. Beijing Institute of Technology

Beijing Institute of Technology is a co-educational university that was founded in 1940. BIT’s main campus is in northwest Beijing in the Zhongguancun area.

This university in China with low acceptance rates is best known for its research under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. Above 26,000 students are currently enrolled at BIT. The total number of faculty members is over 4,000. The university has a lot of contributions to the technology development of the country.

9. Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Huazhong University of Science and Technology is located in Wuchang. HUST was founded in 1952 with the aim of rapid development of economy, science, and technology after the Chinese Civil War. As of now, it is well-known for its research contributions to the Chinese Industry. Various research projects have been conducted at HUST. Around 60,000 students are currently enrolled at HUST. Among these are about 4,200 international students.

10. Wuhan University

Wuhan University is another well-known university in China. It was founded in 1893 and was named Ziqiang Institute back then. It was named National Wuhan University in 1928. The main campus of the university is located in Wuhan. It is organized into more than 80 schools and colleges that offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs to students. Most of the programs are offered in both Chinese and English.

Wuhan University is quite famous among domestic as well as international students. Currently, around 55,000 students are enrolled in various disciplines at Wuhan University.
