Monash University is a public university that was founded in 1958. It is the second oldest university in the state of Victoria behind The University of Melbourne and is Australia’s largest university. Monash University has a total of five campuses, four of which are in Victoria and one international university in Malaysia. Monash University offers has a diverse academic program and offers a wide variety of courses, study options, and research projects. 3. Deakin University

Deakin University was established in 1974 and has quickly become one of Australia’s fastest growing research universities. The university was named after the second Prime Minister of Australia, Alfred Deakin. The main campus of Deakin University is located in the Burwood suburb of Melbourne and there are several additional campuses spread throughout the state of state of Victoria. Deakin University was the first university in Victoria to specialize in distance education and currently has an online Cloud Campus for distance learning students. Every year, more than 53,000 students take courses at Deakin University and the university has ranked in the top one percent of universities worldwide by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. Deakin University is considered one of the best universities in Melbourne because of this reason.

4. Victoria University

Victoria University is a public university in Melbourne that offers courses in higher education and Technical and Further Education. The university has a total of six academic colleges, six research institutes, seven research centers and a Polytechnic center that provides vocational education and training to students. Under Australia’s “Free TAFE Initiative,” many students can take courses for free at Victoria University’s Polytechnic center. Victoria Universities teaches over 45,000 students and from 2017-2019 was ranked in the top two percent of universities by Times Higher Education. 5. La Trobe University

La Trobe University was established in 1964 and was the third university established in the state of Victoria. The main campus of La Trobe University is located in Melbourne in the Bundoora suburb and the campus is only 14 km from Melbourne’s city centre. La Trobe University was ranked in the top 100 universities under 50 years old by Times Higher Education and was also ranked in the top 400 universities by the Academic Rankings of World Universities and The QS World University Rankings. La Trobe University has an emphasis on arts and humanities in the academic programs and the university was ranked in the top 200 international universities in that category by the QS World University Rankings.
