The University of Greenwich was founded in 1891 when several polytechnic schools (Woolwich Polytechnic & Hammersmith College of Art & Building) decided to merge together. Located in Greenwich itself, it is a public research university that Times Higher Education has been ranked as high as 601st in their World University Rankings. International students now have a chance to fund their studies by getting University of Greenwich scholarships.

The University of Greenwich has a population of about 20,000 students. The student body consists of 16,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduate students. Greenwich received an impressive 93 out of 129 in its league table for the Complete University Guide on student satisfaction, a testament to how great the student life at UG is. There is roughly 1,200 administrative staff at Greenwich, leading to a student to faculty ratio of about 18:1. There are over 25 different departments offered, including Psychology, Computer Science, Law, and Communication & Media Studies.

The departments are further split into four faculties – the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Education and Health, Architecture, Computing and Humanities, and the Business School. Greenwich has three different campuses, all spread between London and Kent. The three locations are Greenwich, the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College, and Medway & Avery Hill.

The University of Greenwich’s endowment is about £1.3 million, an average figure for schools in England. Research at Greenwich is renowned for being extremely intense and advanced. They’ve accomplished things such as developing an artificial cow to kill the tsetse fly, restoring the Cutty Sark, and two of the school’s scientists found a way to convert industrial waste into harmless pebbles. Much of the school’s research involves landscape architecture, fire safety, natural resources, and public services. Some of these endowments have been gone to give international students a way to receive great education by giving University of Greenwich scholarships.

Alumni have had no trouble finding success after graduation. They’ve gone on to many different fields, such as business, entertainment, economics, and science. The University of Greenwich boasts alumni and figures such as Richard Allen-Turner (founder of Avalon Entertainment), pop singer Natasha Bedingfield, bronze Olympic medalist Brian Jacks, and Etienne Schneider (Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg).
