The University of Massachusetts Boston, UMass Boston in short, is a stem of the University of Massachusetts pentad-campus system. It is a public research university positioned in Boston City and was founded in 1964. In this article, we will be looking at the UMass Boston acceptance rate.

It was established in response to social turmoil and a vastly growing need for higher education. There was no room to accommodate the surplus of 8,000 applicants in UMass Amherst, which was the only UMass institution then. Almost 1,500 of the rejected applicants were from Boston and the majority could not afford a private college education at the time.

Its timely establishment thus satisfied the growing hunger for affordable education for the Boston metropolitan residents.

The institution estimates a 16:1 student to faculty ratio, which in relation to the population is very optimal for a good learning experience. This provides room for students to easily interact with professors in the small-sized classes of the institution.

More than 90% of the faculty available on a full-time basis bear the highest degree in their respective fields. The institution has a vast diversity of students. International students from 113 countries were enrolled in fall 2018.

Also, more than 100 graduate programs such as Master’s and doctoral degrees, graduate certificates and post-masters certificates are offered.

The institution has a graduation rate of about 49%.

With respect to academic recognition, the institution is very impressive. In the Forbes’ annual ranking of 2019, 300 Best Value Colleges, UMass Boston was ranked No. 247. About 18 sports-related activities are offered by the institution’s Department of Athletics which has an NCAA Division III membership. The department offers intercollegiate competitions and even leisure activities for all, including staff and faculty.

The institution’s poise in a major U.S city avails connections to employing companies and hence offers students valuable learning opportunities and experiences through industrial attachments, internships, and such career-related institution placements. This in addition to the association the institution has with bodies like Harvard Cancer Centre, IBM, Boston Public Schools, combine to ensure that students have a somewhat smooth transition as they graduate from campus and even provides employment opportunities for graduates.
