Located in the beautiful city of Columbia, the University of Missouri (also known as Mizzou or UM) is one of the oldest and most reputed public research universities in Missouri state. The university was founded in 1839. The university comprises 13 schools and colleges which offer more than 300 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It is well known for its school of journalism, Missouri School of journalism, which was the first journalism school founded in the history of the world. In this article, we will be looking at the scholarships offered at the University of Missouri.

The university is offering a number of scholarships and financial aid programs to its international students.
University of Missouri Undergraduate Scholarships
1. International Honors Scholarship
This scholarship is provided by the University of Missouri to honor international students with great academic performance. The scholarship is given to the students on the basis of their performance in SAT or ACT exam. Students with scores of 29 in ACT or 1330+ in SAT are automatically considered for this scholarship. This scholarship is only for fresh undergraduate students. The selected students are given an annual scholarship of $10,000 by the university. The scholarship is renewable provided the student meets the minimum criteria set by the university each year.
2. International Merit Scholarship
This is a merit scholarship provided by the University of Missouri to acknowledge the academic achievements of international undergraduate students. The students having a minimum score of 27 in the ACT exam or students with a minimum score of 1260 in SAT exam are automatically considered for this scholarship at the time of admission. Only new incoming undergraduate students can benefit from this scholarship. The selected students are given an annual scholarship amounting to $5,000 per year. This scholarship is also renewable for the next four years if the students continue to provide excellent academic performance.
3. Global Black and Gold Scholarship
This scholarship is also provided to the international undergraduate students at the University of Missouri. There are two types of scholarships in this program:
Level 1 Scholarship
It is provided to fresh undergraduate students with a minimum score of 27 in ACT or 1260+ score in SAT exam. One of the biological or adoptive parents of the student must be a graduate of the University of Missouri. The eligible students are considered at the time of admission. The selected students are given a full non-resident tuition fee waiver which is equal to around $15,000 per year. The scholarship is renewable for the next four years.
Level 2 Scholarship
This scholarship is also provided to the incoming international undergraduate students on the basis of their SAT or ACT exam. The student must have a minimum of 25 scores in ACT or a 1200+ score in SAT exam to be eligible for a level two scholarship. One the biological or adoptive parent of the student must have graduated from the University of Missouri. The students are automatically selected during their admission. The selected students are given half non-resident tuition fee waiver which is approximately $7,500 a year. The scholarship is renewable for the next four years if the student maintains a CGPA of 2.5 or higher.
Note: A student can get only one of the above-mentioned scholarships at a time. These scholarships are never additive.
4. International Transfer Student Scholarship
This scholarship is provided by the University of Missouri to welcome the transfer students at their campus. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and have at least 24 remaining credit hours. There are two types of transfer awards:
Nonresident Transfer Award I
The students with a minimum GPA of 3.9 are eligible for this award. The selected students are given a full non-resident tuition fee waiver equal to $15,000 per year.
Nonresident Transfer Award II
The transfer students with GPAs between 3.0 and 3.9 are eligible for this award. In this award, the students are given a half non-resident tuition fee waiver which is equal to almost $7,000 a year.
Both these awards are renewable for the additional three years provided the student maintains a CGPA of 3.0 or higher.
5. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
The international transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa community can get this scholarship along with the non-resident award. The students in this scholarship are given an annual stipend of $1,000.
6. Global Tiger Scholarship
This scholarship is provided by the Mizzou Alumni Association to the returning international undergraduate students. Students with excellent academic performance are preferred. The selected students get an annual stipend of $1,000. This scholarship is only one time and can’t be renewed.

University of Missouri Graduate Scholarships
1. Global Tiger Scholarship
The Mizzou Alumni Association also provides this scholarship to international graduate students. The amount of scholarship is the same $1,000 which is provided as a one-time stipend and can’t be renewed.
2. Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships
The University of Missouri provides various graduate assistantships and fellowships to students doing higher degrees. These programs provide professional experience, training as well as financial aid to the students. The students might be given tuition fee waivers and monthly salaries by the university. The students are required to perform the duties assigned to them for 10 to 20 hours per week.
