The University of Rhode Island (URI) is on a 1,245-acre property in rural Kingston. It was an agricultural school when it started in 1892. Today, a century-old renovated farmhouse is a feature of its main campus. The latest edition of the US News Best National Universities gives the University of Rhode Island a ranking of 157. Journalist Christiane Amanpour and oceanographer Robert Ballard are two of the most notable graduates of URI. Moreover, the “Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Center” of the university is a National Center in Cyber Defense Education. The Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency recognizes it.

Admission to the university is not very competitive. The acceptance rate at the University of Rhode Island is 73%. Applicants to the Bachelor of Music degree must pass an audition. Students with decent GPA and SAT/ACT scores will most likely be admitted when they apply.
