The University of Ottawa programs are famous among international students that they made up 75% or 6,520 of undergraduate and 16% or 1,500 of the graduate students in the university.

Tuition Fee at the University of Ottawa for International Students
The University of Ottawa has provided a tuition fee calculator as the cost of education varies depending on the level of education (undergraduate or graduate), student status (full-time or part-time), study program, and legal status in Canada. However, the fee calculator only provides an estimate, and the university will display the exact total amount available on the Statement of Account found in the uoZone.
International students pay more than Canadian ones unless they are considered the differential tuition fee exemption. The differential tuition fee exemption allows international students to pay the same amount of tuition as domestic students if they will be taking programs in French.
The estimated tuition fees for undergraduate programs in Arts and Science are $36,664 to $46,963, Civil Law $41,796, and Engineering $53,236. Meanwhile, graduate studies are the same for all faculties, with Master’s at $25,575 to $62,839 and Ph.D. at $6,910 to $7,913. Besides the tuition fees, as an international student, you must consider other living expenses in gauging if you have sufficient means of studying and living in Canada.
International Admissions Guide at University of Ottawa
As the University of Ottawa’s application can take months from international, the candidate must apply as early as possible to ensure your admission to the University of Ottawa. They have also prepared a guide to help you before, during, and after your application. Here is an overview of what you need to know to apply for undergraduate programs as an international candidate.
- Before applying, you need to know that the required level of study to get into undergraduate programs varies according to your country of origin.

Don’t worry, as the university website contains all the program-specific criteria mentioned above. You must read all the necessary specific information first before proceeding. Once you have already met all the country-specific requirements and program prerequisites, apply online in the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC), where you can submit all the necessary documents and pay the application fee. Expect the result of your application within 1-2 weeks.
Applicants for Graduate and Post-Doctoral studies also undergo a similar process. In addition, they will have to select a thesis advisor as part of the application.
Application Fee at University of Ottawa
The application fee for undergraduate and graduate programs is different. The base application fee for undergraduate studies is $156, with an additional $10 for non-Canadian students. The estimate excludes the extra Supplemental Document Evaluation Fee and Supplemental Program Fee. However, for most graduate programs, it will only cost $110. Note that the application fee is non-refundable.
Admissions Requirements at the University of Ottawa for International Students
The admission requirements vary from the country you came from, but generally, the admission requirements for undergraduate programs are as follows:
- Completion or currently in Year 12
- 75% and above minimum average
- Completion of all prerequisites (vary per program)
- Minimum Language requirements (English or French)
Note that documents in other languages need to be in English or French.
The basic requirements for graduate and post-graduate studies, on the other hand, are the same with every country and vary only on the program-specific requirements. A Master’s degree requires a bachelor’s degree(70% average), while Doctoral programs need completion of a Master’s degree (75% average).
University of Ottawa Rankings
The University of Ottawa is part of the top 10 universities in Canada, but it does not only fair well locally but also internationally. The university had been part of the 2% of educational institutions and the largest among bilingual (French-English) universities globally. The University of Ottawa placed 141st, its highest so far, in the Times Higher Education in 2020. It also ranked 279th in QS World University Rankings of the same year.

Only 15 per 100 applicants of the University of Ottawa get accepted, translating to an estimated 15% acceptance rate. Each year, around 70,000 students apply to the university, and only less than 10,000 of that make it to the enrolment.

It also has a deadline for application on the 30th of April. The only difference between the two is the value of each scholarship.

The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), one of the best scholarships at the University of Ottawa for international students, is closely related to the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST). It compasses all faculty of study and is available for non-Canadian students.
The applicants must be studying full-time and have taken at least zero to twenty-four months of graduate studies to be eligible.
