Wayne State University Undergraduate Scholarship

1. Warrior Award

Wayne State University provides academic awards to international undergraduate students. Warrior award is the first in this series. It is a merit-based scholarship provided to the international incoming students. Only freshmen are eligible to apply for Warrior award. The students are selected for this award on the basis of their admission application. Students with the highest GPA and SAT scores are preferred. The selected students are given an annual scholarship of $6000. The scholarship is renewable for the next four years. For the continuation of scholarship, the student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above and pass at least 30 credits per year.


2. Gold Award

It is the second award in the series of academic awards provided by Wayne State University. It is also given to international freshmen who enroll in one of the undergraduate programs at the university. Students are selected for this Wayne State University scholarship on the basis of their high school GPA and SAT score. Only a limited number of students are selected each year for the Gold award. Those who qualify are given an annual scholarship of $4,000. The scholarship is renewable for the next four years. In order to maintain the scholarship, the students must have a CGPA of 3.0 or above and pass 30 credits in one academic year.


3. Green Award

It is the third one in the list of academic awards offered by Wayne State University. Like the other two awards, this award is also for international undergraduate freshmen. The requirements for this award are less as compared to the other two awards. Students who fail to get the Warrior or Gold award can get Green award easily. The students who qualify for this award are given an annual stipend of $2,000 by the university. Like other two awards, this award is also renewable for the next four years provided the student meets the requirements set by the university.

Note: The Wayne State University scholarships y are not additive. A student can get only one of the above-stated awards.


4. YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship

Wayne State University has joined the race of universities that offer YouAreWelcomeHere scholarships to international students. This scholarship is exclusively for international undergraduate students who have not joined any other university yet. This is a merit-based award given to the students with excellent academic record. The students who qualify for this award can study at Wayne State University with an in-state tuition rate. Thus, the recipients of this award can save up to $10,000 a year. The scholarship is renewable until the completion of the degree. Those students who receive this award are required to participate in intercultural programs at Wayne State University.


5. Transfer Students Award

Transfer students are also given Wayne State University scholarships. The students are provided scholarships on the basis of their academic performance. Students with interest in extra-curricular activities are preferred. The scholarship amount is variable depending on the program and the credits left to study.


6. Great Lakes Award

This award is provided to the international freshmen who live in a state or province which borders Great lake. This is only for incoming undergraduate students. Only a limited number of students are selected on the basis of their academic record. The selected students are given a non-resident fee waiver which saves up to $2,000 per year.

1. Graduate Assistantship

Wayne State University offers graduate assistantship opportunities to its international graduate students. This is probably the best way to fund your graduate degree at Wayne State University. Students must have good academic record to be appointed as a graduate assistant. The appointments are made for one, two or three semesters. However, if the student fails to perform his duties, the appointment may be canceled by the university administration any time. Wayne State University offers three types of graduate assistantships:

  • Graduate Teaching Assistant: assist in the teaching programs of the university.
  • Graduate Student Assistant: assist the university in handling the affairs of the students.
  • Graduate Research Assistant: participate in a university or faculty sponsored research at Wayne State University.

The graduate assistants at Wayne State University are provided tuition fee waiver for up to 10 graduate credits for fall and winter semesters each.
