The Southern New Hampshire University, or SNHU, was established in 1932. Located in Manchester and Hooksett, New Hampshire, began as a business education college. It was charted in 1963 and given the authority to grant degrees to its students. The first students to be awarded bachelor’s degrees graduated in 1966. Compared to other institutions in the United States, SNHU is still quite young, but its reputation overshadows its age. The changes that began in the 1970s led to the growth of a bigger and more organized university, which is the present-day SNHU. Read on to find out more information about this private institution, including the acceptance rate at Southern New Hampshire University and how to apply.

SNHU has one of the biggest, if not the biggest, student bodies in the United States. The institution that began as a business college currently hosts more than 90,000 students who are enrolled in various programs. However, only 3,300 of them – which is equivalent to about 5% –  are studying on campus. The rest of them are enrolled in online programs (distance learning). Since most of its body is based online, it is no surprise that only 16% of the students hail from New Hampshire. With such a population, problems are bound to arise in terms of tutoring and Southern New Hampshire University is no exception. The ratio of available teaching staff to students is 1:30, which is quite a huge gap. Also, only 3% of the teachers are available on a full-time basis. As a consequence, the on-time graduation rate is below average (49%). Another important metric is the acceptance rate at the Southern New Hampshire University, which is 93%. So, you will have no problem being accepted at the university.

New students can choose their preferred courses from the 64 undergraduate programs in 22 distinct fields (52 majors). More than 8,500 students graduate with these degrees every year. Business Administration and Management is the most popular program followed by Liberal Arts and General Psychology, respectively. The highest degree you can be offered at SNHU is Ph.D. while Accounting is the best-ranked undergraduate program.

At least 70% of SNHU students live on campus – this statistic is only applicable to those who study within the university buildings. You can choose to live in residence halls or shared apartments that have everything you need, including kitchens. There are 75 clubs and organizations from which one can choose their favorite. However, this privilege comes with the condition that you maintain a high academic performance.

SNHU’s Acceptance Rate

Southern New Hampshire University has an acceptance rate of 93%, which is one of the highest in the United States. As such, there is minimal competition since almost every applicant is guaranteed a place in the school. In other words, for every ten applicants, 9 of them get the chance to become the next SNHU’s freshmen.

One of the requirements you will need is your high school transcript detailing all your performance. You will also be expected to submit either your SAT or ACT scores depending on which one you scored higher. A recommendation later from your high school teacher will raise your chances of being selected. Finally, it is important to note that every applicant is required to pay a nonrefundable fee of $40.
